Sir Edmund Hillary's Rolex

I'm sure this has been posted and discussed before, but a quick search did not reveal the relevant thread to me.

On a visit to Zurich I went to the Beyer Museum and found Sir Edmund Hillary's Everest watch on display:

I thought this watch was in suspension at Rolex HQ in Geneva, also did they have any Smiths on display as those were in use during the ascension too?

The placard informs us that the extra long strap went over his clothes (coat) and gloves.

As well as reached deepest point in the ocean.
