please help identify

i have tried to find REF.4060 but no luck, the 497,977 dates the case to 1947

Rolex made a lot of different square/rectangular cased watches in the '30s and '40s. They also made cases and put in movements for the big stores such as Bucherer, which would appear on the dial

Most of them used the classic HW movement with the seconds hand at 6 oclock.. The Rolex Prince was also being made during this time..

Thanks Larry, I thought is was a prince myself, although all the models I have looked at on the net have the crown recessed into the case.

By the late 40's and 50's they had some that used the Bombe' style lugs and a non-recessed crown.. They also used other brands, like Rolco, in the rectangular case.
