Your favorite men's colognes?

Minor update.

1) The Lacoste Essentials Sport is not as good as I first thought. It's not horrible, but what I find is, it smells great when freshly applied, but as it dries and gets absorbed it changes into a sort of artificial smell. Not offensive, but I'm finding that while higher quality colognes also do change, they never smell obviously artificial. Still a good value at $45 for 4.2 oz. but I wouldn't buy it again.

2) Reading up on Creed Irish Tweed, it sounded like many people said it smells very much like Cool Water, so I bought a bottle of CW, it's not that great, well to me at least. Yeah, it's distinctive, but im not sure I like the smell. I took a chance for $30, should have kept my money. :) Perhaps the fact you can get it at Wal Mart should have been a tip off.

I did grab a bottle of Armani Code Sport, like it quite a bit. Lately I'm also liking Eternity Aqua, and Eternity Summer isn't bad either. Regular eternity I don't like at all, go figure.

Cool water copied GIT but unless your from Basenotes you wont really be able to tell the difference. I have GIT and love it but for the money Id get Cool Water. Its about 10% different than GIT 40$ compared to 300$

Ari - the CW is a clone of G.I.T.

It's been extremely successful, but once you give the G.I.T. a go, it really takes you to another level. It is way more complex and multi-dimensional.

I am not in the CW or G.I.T. camp either, but recognize it's the single most significant scent that drove Creed forward in the last 25 years.

When it comes to Creed Green Irish Tweed that is the only Cologne I have ever worn that I have had women I work with ask what it is and write it down so they could buy it. I thought it had no longevity so I would wear alot and my friends told me they could smell me 40 feet away. I guess you cant smell the cologne on yourself as long as others can smell it on you. Hope you like my list they are all very very good scents. When it comes to Colognes it really doesnt matter what brand or how much money. The point of it is to smell good! A cologne can cost 4,000$ and take 2 years to make but if it doesnt smell good then who gives a shit!

I'm certainly going to try to find a GIT tester somewhere to be certain, but I don't think I'm going to like it enough to drop $300. I suppose I'll cross that bridge if I get there. :) I read that GIT and CW were made by the same perfumer. Apparently after CW sort of knocked off the GIT smell, for a tenth the price, some GIT lovers were put off enough to ditch their GIT, not wanting to smell like a $25 cologne. :)

In the meantime, I still love ADG, I just wish it lasted longer, then again it seems very few colognes last more than a couple of hours on me for some reason.

I've smelled a few of the Hermes scents, I didn't like them that much. Then again what I'm discovering is, some scents smell amazing at first, then quickly smell not that great. Others perhaps smell a bit strong or odd at first, then settle into something nice and long lasting. I wonder if the Hermes scents are that way.

I do like Chanel Bleu, but it's not cheap, I've been trying to find it discounted somewhere other than Amazon or EBay.

Anybody familiar with Geurlain? I really liked one called Geurlain Pour Homme, L'Eau. I'm not familiar with the brand however.

Indeed, the G.I.T. (and CW as well) makes women really interested, historically. It is a very successful recipe. I second the opinion on the poor longevity of the Creed range of fragrances.

Although it differs from skin to skin, the general consensus is that the Creed perfumes do not last more than 2 hours at most. I've read this a number of times in a few fora (basenotes.net, Badger & Blade). It happens to me as well, so I've told myself I'll most likely never buy another Creed perfume again.

When paying $150 or so for a 30ml perfume, you have expectations. Creed seems not to be so interested on that. We do not know, perhaps their philosophy or approach is different, they may have their reasons for sticking to perfumes which aromatically fade so fast for most people after application. But for so much $$$, you expect more.

Not the end of the world, though. So many other brands and scents available!

Yes, I have few of their perfumes. They're excellent.

Pour Homme: had that one in the EdP version, sold it on eBay. Not sure I did the right thing, but in general it does not get that much applause. Mind you, the EdP versions are slightly different to the EdT versions, especially for Guerlain. The EdP is reportedly very good on the "L'Instant" (I have the EdT on that one) and the EdT on the "Pour Homme" is better that the same EdP.

L'Eau: Not familiar with that one.

The kiosks at the mall are hilarious, they always try to pull the same old sales pitch. They have a selection of medium to entry-level decent colognes, like Dolce and Gabbana, Burberry, Boss, etc. but if you show any interest in them, they immediately start assaulting you with samples of all these other colognes you've never heard of, clearly very cheap colognes, that they claim are much better than the more established brands. They always suggest that the expensive colognes you've been suckered into buying, (or at least the more expensive colognes), don't last very long, but these surprisingly affordable ones have much more oil content, allowing them to last much longer, and they smell just as good if not better than the brands that I've heard of. :-)

Then when you ask what the price is, for this decent smelling, but clearly cheap cologne that you've never heard of, it's like $80, but you're in luck, as it's on sale for only $39! What a deal!!!

Except, that when you whip out your iPhone, and do a search for that cologne, you see it on Amazon for $18 shipped. :)

Picked up a bottle of Chanel Bleu, I have to say I like it a lot. Starts off fresh and citrusy, a bit of orange. Then it becomes a subtle earthy, woodsy scent, with still a hint of a fresh orange/citrus sport smell, but unlike other colognes, once it dries, it doesn't start to smell artificial or synthetic, or too peppery, it just smells natural and fresh, for lack of a better term. Much as I like ADG, it seems to disappear on me in an hour. The Chanel seems to give me 2-3 hours, I suspect others can smell it even after I can't.

Not that it matters, but it has a cool magnetic cap too. :)

(Woah! Mental note, keep cap away from my watches. :) )

but i use Crabtree soaps which are lightly scented, so I dont use cologne much because I dont see the need.

I couldn't help but read some of the reviews over on Basenotes.

I hope I don't offend, but wow, the flowery hyperbole and pomposity displayed by some of these cologne afficionadoes is really, REALLY over the top, which actually makes them kind of entertaining. :)

So, all in good fun, and let me say, I have ZERO idea of what I'm even talking about, I thought I'd review my new favorite cologne, Basenotes style. :)

Chanel Bleu begins its sultry journey with top notes of mandarin, juniper and nutmeg. On the drydown, the citrus top notes get nudged over by a salty, aquatic tone, but still, some spicy green mandarin accords, and a touch of peppery patchouli linger, this transitions into a subtle, musky base note, close to the skin but never cloying (whatever THAT means!), with some salty ocean air and spices still evident, sharing space with perhaps a sliver of earthy cedar and vetiver (I don't even know what vetiver is!). One feels as if they're walking down a dark, cool beach after sunset, a hint of ocean spray envelopes you, a comforting breeze blows on your smooth damp skin, bringing soothing wisps of exotic, spicy oranges. You feel confident, yet unpredictable, a man that knows what he wants, and usually gets it, a singular man who says: take me if you'll have me, but, you WILL have me.... (Then spends 15- life for rape) :) "It wasn't me, it was my cologne!!!"

My husband dug up some crap he had from 20 years ago.....Aramis, I believe it was....OMG, I almost gagged. I don't know where he had that hidden.

I trashed it while he was at work. He doesn't wear cologne, just aftershave. He really likes Aqua Velva, which isn't terrible.

I got him some Dolche and Gabanna Light Blue and some Polo Blue after shave. He seems to prefer the Polo Blue and as long as he doesn't smell like some old child molester, I am happy.

He won't buy it himself, so I keep an eye on his supply and I purchase it.

He also won't give up the Seiko Kinnetic for a Rolex Submariner (I have tried guys!) He bought a 92 Camaro Z28 last month that was cheaper than the Sub.
