Wow, it looks ergonomically terrible. I just can't believe it would be that thin for phone use. Maybe they're counting on millions of people dropping them and buying replacements.

The rumor goes for a slightly bigger phone which would not require making an iPad mini.

I would like to see an iPhone mini for a change.

Looks very thin Dalip, I'm sure you could fold it and make one of those out of it...

Just got 4S a few months ago. I think I better figure out how to use it first.

I don't doubt it could be that thin, the back is probably slightly curved. Look how thin their air is, cos of the metal body it's tough as well.

The problem is the screens, most of my mates Iphone screens are smashed.

The size is good. Perfect for my middle aged eyes
One thing, it's not as intuitive as the iPhone. Sometimes it takes a few extra pushes or clicks to get to something or delete something. Apple is the king of intuitive which is hard to beat. Mainly just takes a little getting used to.

Again seem to be lots of speculation that suggests a much thinner unibody design:

From the web:

"Last month the same parts supplier posted a video which allegedly shows the metal chassis that Apple will use for the iPhone 5. This showed a number of interesting new features, including:

Unibody metal chassis, which to me looks and sounds like it might be made from Liquidmetal alloy;
Width appears unchanged;
Longer body, suggesting a 4-inch screen;
Substantially thinner design;
Smaller SIM tray;
Headphone jack moved to the bottom;
Smaller dock connector;
Larger speaker grill;
The on/off switch, volume control and mute switch seem to be similar to those found on the iPhone 4 and 4S.

If these are genuine parts -- bear in mind that I'm not making any assertions that it is although the evidence is compelling -- then Apple has just made it much harder to get at the battery on the forthcoming iPhone.

Replacing that would require removing the screen just as it did with the earlier models, but the thinner screens used today -- along with copious amounts of adhesive -- mean that it's a lot easier to break the screen.

I stopped following apple when they failed to impress at what was supposed to have been the original iphone 5 event over a year ago. They were then rumored to be releasing a larger screen iphone. Instead, they released another iphone 4 with "Siri."

I was further disappointed when they did away with the 17 inch mbp.

My hunch is that Apple will once again fail to impress.

I for one am really looking forward to this release from Apple.

Each to their own, and I don't have the need to knock Samsung. I tried the galaxy and didn't get on with it. But it's clearly a great device.

The more competition the better as far as I'm concerned.

I work in Silicon Valley and have a couple of friends that work on the OS for the IPhone. They're tight lipped about any new features but said to expect an announcement very soon!

A redesigned phone would have been nice last year, but any disappointments should really be blamed on expectations, we were like spoiled brats: "I wanted a NEW phone!!!" :) The cycle has been new phone, then a tweaked version of it, then a new one again, just like the 3GS, we shouldn't have expected anything more than the 4s. But we wanted a new one.

And I will say, I kept my 4 as a spare. Had to use it for a few days when my 4s accompanied me into the pool. :( I couldn't believe how slow and lagging the 4 felt compared to the S, when I upgraded to the 4s, didn't realize how big a difference it was, but when I had to downgrade for a while, it was very noticeable to me, the 4s runs circles around the 4.

But I suspect this new one will indeed be a redesigned phone, and one thing I know, whatever they release, they'll sell a ton of them. They always do. You don't have to be stupid or pounding Kool Aid to like the iPhone. People do, myself included.

I agree, the iPhone 5 must bring something else than just a slight update as the iPhone 4s did.

IMHO the iPhone 4 -> iPhone 4s update could only have been pulled off by Apple. Never seen a more boring update.

Here's to hoping Apple won't loose it's edge in smartphones.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The iphone hasn't been innovative since its initial release. Apple has to do something spectacular to win back any of the margin it has lost to Android phones. For those of you Apple fanboys out there, remember that in the US, and worldwide for that matter, the Android OS dominates. That said, the iOS based products, like my iPad here, offer ease of use and don't really req you to think to use them. I personally feel that since Steve Jobs passing though, we are inevitably going to see the fall of Apple. It may take a few product cycles, but it will happen as it always does when tech companies lose there driving force.....

True, but I won't loose any sleep over it. My Iphone gets a lots of use and ss much as I like it in the end it's just a tool.
