Incoming! The Beast is finally here!!

A few random initial thoughts:

Everything feels just a little bit better (for example the clicks on the bezel or the super Glidelock).

Heavy? Check ... Thick? Check ... Large? Check ... Versatile / Elegant? Maybe not ... Do I care? Not really.

This implementation of the Glidelock is pure genious! Miles above the Sub.

I love the tapered lugs, older style.

The domed crystal and matte dial combination is a thing of beauty ... something to behold.

The text on the ring lock is visible but it does not bother me. I have to focus on it to really notice. The rehaut engraving on the other hand is very light and small, not as predominant as on my Sub (well, predominant is not the right word but you get the idea) and difficult to see due to the domed crystal. I noticed this on pictures where it is barely visible at all. This is a plus for me.

The fit on the wrist is perfection (at least on mine which is very flat), but it lets you know it's there. The range of adjustment lets you position both head and clasp very precisely on the wrist.

I did remove the wetsuit extension. It is exactly the length of two links, but unlike having two links, it does not flex so it has an effect on the fit. I have to play around with it. I'd like to have it on, just for the cool factor.

The oversize box makes it feel like the special piece it is.

In summary, I am a bit in awe at the moment, and it will take me some time to get used to it but it is on a different league than anything I had before.

All those who say that such a piece is not necessary etc. etc. do have a point ... but put this bad boy on your wrist and everything is quickly forgotten.

The sad part is that my trusty 16570 had to go, but one can't have everything. It was not getting any wrist time since I got my LV C.

Special thanks to Charles (SaddleSC) for the friendly advice and to DavidSW for his immense patience.

Here are a few quick pics:

A better perspective. Those close up shots are not really representative .... I think this is the first time I took pictures of myself in the mirror ...

I absolutely love the DSSD. I just wish they made it the same size as the Sub C. My tiny wrist cant handle 43mm.

Thanks guys for the nice comments!

My wrist is a very flat 6.75". I think on this particular watch you have to look at other factors as well, such as build and overall "style" ... I am short but very fit, I dress like a beach bum most of the time, etc. so it suits me well. My wife on the other hand is on the opposite extreme of the elegance / style scale and she LOVED the watch regardless.

For me, it's not the diameter (which is somewhat large), it's the thickness. I've yet to see a photo that captures how massively thick this watch looks in person.

Seems you got the perfect wrist size for this perfect watch.... Congrats, I wish Rolex launches a new Sea-Dweller between the Sub and the Deep-Sea that would be thinner cos my wrist can't afford the SDDDS.....

It is thick (I don't think it is massive) ... there is no way around it. You have to factor that in if you want it.

Spooky blue lume. The pic is 1/60 sec so it is bright. I have to do a long exposure.
