Just going to pull the trigger on a set of Gene's ELs so I was testing the fitment of a Nato I already have and remembered a post on the no hole spring bars popping out if you move the band around!,,,,sure as heck it happen right off!!!
Do you think with Gene's ELs and the fact the band is very tight to the watches case back when it's attach to the watch this will stop this from happening???WHY WHY WHY did the dump the holes????????????????CJ.

Do you think its because the bar tips dont penetrate deep enough into the lugs?

Natos are already tight to begin with. How did they fit with etur els? I remember on my pre-c sub I could only fit natos not zulus. Could be too little space?

Chances are, the strap is grabbing the collar of the spring bar, and when you wiggle the strap, it's pulling the plunger back, thus popping the spring bar. The old bars, for the lug holed cases, didn't have the collars, so the strap couldn't grab.

The shouldered spring bars get caught on the strap and are more likely to come off, part of the reason I will not use straps on non lug hole watches.

I have a sub-c and at first really wanted to wear natos and leather straps on it.

It just doesn't work. Doesn't fit properly or look good. Keep it on that awesome bracelet.

And make like me - buy a vintage piece. Best of both worlds! The lug holes are definitely convenient and a nice looking touch.

I've had my GMTIIC on a NATO with no issues thus far. I will be much more careful now after reading this thread.

I was able to put NATOs and ZULUs on my Yacht-Master with no lug holes with no problem. I wore it for almost a year like that. Worked like a charm

It seems strange to use endlinks together with a NATO. Perhaps if you used thicker spring bars, where the main shaft is much thicker than the collars for removing the spring bars, it would be more secure.

The problem simply lies with the band catching on the inside ring of the spring bar that is used for band removal and pulls the bar out,,,I have a nato on my older Master II with ELs and that makes the band real tight,,I just wonder what it would take to dislodge the bar??? Holes do rule!!!!!
