Not if the stem is unlocked and open - at least this was my experience with a GMT of 1960 vintage. No problems with the GMT II yet but I am more careful.

There may be trepidation with an older watch where the crown assembly seals or even the crystal is in doubt. If so, get it pressure tested, it's cheap enough and gives you the piece of mind.
Anything newer - of course the GMT is rated to 100 meters under actual water before it ships. |

I did dive in the Great Barrier Reef in Queenslands with it last year and usually wear it when swimming in the pool or in the hot spring as well.
