Ooh, ooh - how about this? A pasta strainer? You squeeze the handle, dip it into the water, pick up the noodly bits, then release the handle to drain the noodles (dumpling, spaetzle, etc.)

I don't know what it is Lisa.

Bought a box full of old hand tools at an auction Monday night.
I've figured out what most of them are except this thing and another small wood/metal tool.

Here's the other tool.

The 3 bits are stored in the handle that unscrews.

Not really, there was a mix of tools from all kinds of professions.

Somehow I think the wood/metal tool has to do with leather. I remember my upholstery guy had something similar to press double french stitchings on the Conolly leather.

I think the first one is an egg beater, for scrambling. The other possibility is it's a dough whisk.

But the squeezey handle.... what purpose would that serve?

hi Lisa and J....I'm thinking it is not a kitchen utensil anymore- the handle does not seem long enough- if it was for whisking or blending/mashing, your hand would be right in the goop!.....

Actually I think you're right, Michelle. The end looks like to could be, but not the handle.

Maybe it's the tool version of evolution, something that seemed like a good idea but didn't work out too well.

Most people when looking at it thought it was for cooking eggs until they realized it wouldn't open.

Maybe it's not for the kitchen at all. Maybe it's a specialist tool of some kind.

If it was, I can't think of a better reason for inventing the little yellow pill.

I don't know what it is, but it's starting to drive me nuts....

.....Lisa, you got any of those lil' helpers to spare?
