I would bring a black briefcase with $30k on it. Wear a black suit and sun glasses. That would look super cool. But the police may wait for you outside.

Have them ship it to Oregon and save the sales tax

Clearly you are joking in which case I appreciate the or you're totally ignorant and clueless (which I think is more likely).

If your bank has a branch in OR, do the deal, drop by a local branch and get a cashiers check cut.

I can't believe this.

Why doesn't the AD come up with all these alternatives?

Thanks for all the advice. My bank is in two of the three cities with an AD. I'll check with the OR bank about getting a bank check from my CA account. Sounds like the most secure. And I doubt the jewelers want to deal with 300 hundred-dollar bills any more than I do. Damn the drug traffickers! Need $1000 bills like the early 20th century!

In the meantime, here's the Stainless one I bought today to "tide me over." May work out to be a better daily wearer than gold, but I will have that yellow one some time!

Traveller checks serve a useful purpose under the right circumstances. This, however, isn't one of them. Too much money at stake to go this method.
Again, spot on Mon.

After two pages of advice for a simple money transfer the OP bought a SS Daytona at home.

Are you saying that the UK is as backwards as the US?

You get your salary by a check, pay all your bills with a personal check and by mail?

Am I being sensitive, or is this fine post evolving into a snarky exchange?

The SS Daytona was part two of a two part plan. Part one is the yellow gold Daytona. I just went out of order, that's all.

I do appreciate the advice. At this point (for anyone who really cares), I think the best approach is to make the calls to the Eugene/Salem/Portland AD's and ask them about stock, and which payment method will be most desired by them. If I can pinpoint the AD/model, I'll probably make a bank check payable to them for $25k and pay the difference of the negotiated price in cash. I don't want to wait for checks to clear or boxes to ship on such a pricy toy.

Thanks again to all. As always, some excellent advice (and funny advice)!
