Why Rolex dials do not say AUTOMATIC?

I have never seen a Rolex dial that has AUTOMATIC printed on it.

Any one can guess on why the word AUTOMATIC does not appear on their dials?

I like the word PERPETUAL ---- it makes them unique for sure because ton of other watches I see everyday, say AUTOMATIC on them..... and I bet no one except ROLEX uses the word PERPETUAL ....

Perpetual is a "nicer" way of saying it... Just like "superlative" chronometer.

Its called marketing perpetual sounds grander than automatic and yes today perpetual its just Rolex speak for being automatic.Now it was Perrelet invented the first self winding mechanism around 1770,later Breguet improved it and called his winding system perpetuelles.Now perhaps this is where Rolex got the idea to call there automatics Perpetual.But it was a guy called John Harwood from the Isle of Man UK we can thank for the automatic watch as we know it today. He in 1923 took out a UK/World patent for the first truly automatic winding wrist watch.And he went on with backing to produce many thousands of these watches,but mainly owing to the very hard industrial depression in the mid 1920s to 1930s in the UK he went broke.Now old Hans Wilsdorf of Rolex being a very clever but very shrewd man bought and took up this auto-winding patent for the Rolex Watch Company,and in the very early 1930s incorporated it into the oyster design case.

Automatic sounds too mechanical while perpetual is more transcendent. Just Rolex being highfalutin. But perpetual does sound a lot nicer.

I don't see any reason why any watchmaker would put "automatic" on the dial, although I suppose that some do..

Years ago when I finally had the means to buy a Rolex I thought it had a perpetual calendar - because it says Perpetual Date.

Tudor uses "Rotor self-winding"-text. I wish they would use the word "automatic"instead. That rotor etc. sounds a bit too complicated.

Rolex words are cool. I love perpetual....and superlative...
When I first discovered Rolex I used to think their words meant something specific to their movement or type of certification. It made me do a lot of research. I was sort of convinced these terms meant something special, since the word chronometer(cosc) had a specific meaning.

But Rolexes do say automatic on them, just in a "highfalutin" way,...perpetual.
