Is it really possible to buy a Genuine rolex for under $1k?

New here, I see ads both here and elsewhere for Rolexes (men and ladies) for just over a thousand bucks or sometimes even under that. Is this really possible i.e. are they legit?

I'd say it's possible - depending on the condition of the watch.

You could see a very distressed OP or DJ that's in need of service and many parts needing replacement for $1200-1800. These would have bad bracelets, balky or non-operational movements, dings, scratches and/or broken parts.

I have rehabbed similar pieces from the 70's and 80's within that range.

Yes you can sometimes pick up watches like the OP from the 1950s even 1960s early 70s for around or under $1000.

The watch would need major repair, likely.

I think the answer is yes. The next question would be can you pick up a Rolex worth buying for under $1000? The answer would be no. I think you need to hit that $1500+ really $1800+ mark to get into something actually worth buying.

You can get genuine 1950s Precisions for around $1000, but they'll be 32mm (too small for many). I haven't seen many other options around that price point.

Sure but you'll likely need another $1000 or more to get it back to good running condition / cosmetic shape.

Yes. Whether you would want to buy/own what could be had for this price is another story.

I think you would need to go for 2K to get something that's not in need of major repair.

Exactly. Any newer sport model Rolex under $1,000 - not possible.

I've had friends find 34mm Precisions for around 1k in good running condition off of eBay which were certainly genuine. It's possible but do your homework.

There's not really any sport models under 3k these day which don't need major repairs.

Excuse the shaky picture, trying to manipulate a phone camera in electric light and avoiding reflections was a bit of a mission....

This is what £675 UK bought me, 1971 6694; came with an aftermarket bracelet and a leather strap too.

As you see, the face isn't perfect, but currently accurate to within 30 secs a day.

I've only had her two weeks and am getting into the nightly winding ritual!

Regards

Dave in London

5 Rolex's on chrono24 in the UK for less than £1000. All on straps and things like vintage air king. Something called a vintage "speedking" that I've never heard of as well.

For $500 more the doors open much wider. An AirKing, OP, OPD can be had, recently serviced for $1500-$1800. My AK was $1650 with tax, serviced from an AD...
