What is your preferred way of opening the case back on your Rolex? Do you have your own tools or do you take it to an AD? Are AD's usually cool about taking the case back off?

my case back might as well be welded, no desire to open it whatsoever....ever.

Why would you need to take it off? Unless you know what you're doing with regards to the gaskets etc., I wouldn't touch it

A caseback should not be messed with especially if there is no good reason. Curiosity to see the RED wheel or other Rolex enravings are not good enough reasons. Any fool can open the case back. Putting it back perfectly is what the fool can not do.

Rolex casebacks are usually scrwed down and have coin'ed edge. Tools can be bought from ebay for $10 and would perfectly fine.

The only reason I would want to take it off would be to take pictures of the movement for a watch that I am selling/trading.

use a set of tools, handed down from my father a retired watchmaker, original rolex openers, no aftermarket crap in his day, i believe a full set goes for 2000 grand now.

I take off the casebacks all the time. I use an LG open all caseback remover.

I also have a pressure tester to make sure everything is proper after I reseal it .

Swapping bracelets and bezel inserts on subs and GMTs is one thing, but leave the gaskets and guts to the pros.

How come you are opening so many casebacks? Are you a watchmaker?

I bought one off ebay with a wood block to hold the watch. I got it so when I bought a Rolex I could make sure it was the real deal. And for when selling on ebay ect..
gaskets are cheap but not that you need to replace them every time you open a watch.
But it is a good idea to test them if you can. I have not ever had a problem after 40-50
watches! I Called two deals off because they were fakes and one because it was broken inside!
I am a millwright and gaskets and gears and moving parts were some of my interests
when it comes to watches I love watching them turn and tick!

I have a few Watchmaker friends and have watched them before I did things myself.
There are u-tube videos that might help.

They are beautiful even on the inside!!

They should be but I have first hand experience that rolex service center does not pressure test every time they work on your watch. My watch filled with water 2 days after a service from them.

As a buyer, I would strongly prefer to read in the advert that the case back had never been opened! Especially by other than a certided watch tech.

I buy many many pre owned Rolexes and must make sure the movements are 100% original and authentic rolex parts only
