Looking for a 1953 Rolex
Hi all, I am starting my search for a vintage Rolex from 1953 as a gift for my potential father in law's 60th bday next year.
What do you guys think about the idea? As for the models, would be great if you can steer me in the right direction. I've never shopped for a vintage rolex and know nothing about watches from that era. Did some initial research and seems like the 6084 is one of my options. Anything else I should seek out? Thanks for the input! |

Buy a vintage Sub. Interestingly Sub was introduced in 1953 according to Rolex website.

Would be a great gift in my book!
I'd start by looking at some of the vintage sites recommended by others here on TRF. It's at the top of this form section, or click link: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=180461

You might not be able to find an exact year match, unless the inner case back is stamped with the year (not so on gold models).
I would consider an early Datejust such as a 6305. Or perhaps a Bombe (pronounced Bombay) model (e.g. see: http://www.network54.com/Forum/20759...%2750s+14kt+YG). You didn't mention price range, but it seems you are on the lower-medium end if you are considering the 6084. Many manual wind models were made at that time, and these are all pretty reasonably priced these days. Try to look for an original dial on any watch you consider.

Thanks guys!! I've looked more into it and the 1953 SUB is definitely out of the budget!!
Then again, any 1953 Rolex is out of my range. I've settled on a 1953 Omega Seamaster instead. What do you guys think about this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1953...item2a24078419 Or if anyone has a better idea for a brand around 500? I think the following vintage brands are in my price range Hamilton Longines thANKS|! |
