Friends of ours have one. They make a nice pet. That one is often jumping into the pool, he also catches snakes and any other thing he can find.

The most hyper pet we ever had.

We eventually got rid of him for that very reason.

Got rid of him?

This one is so sweet and calm as a puppy but I think it's because with our other dog our two kids and he neighbors kids he is just plum exhausted.

I only think they are "hyper" if they don't get the exercise they need....from the research I did.

Does his look hyper? Just snapped Fast a sleep tuckered out in my lap....

They do have a reputation for being high energy. That being said, not all dogs live up to their breeds reputation. Enjoy your new puppy!

I volunteer at a dog rescue and it seems the biggest problem people have with small dogs is they don't take dog training seriously because they feel like they can 'control' the dog due to size. To have a well behaved dog, training is vital. This can be done as simply as buying a few books and learning what works. Sorry, end soap box.

Thanks and I hear ya!
I have to say so far so good...
Day 2 and no mistakes...not even in the cage at night. I think having a "big" brother has really helped his wanting to go outside...wish us luck!

Great puppy. Enjoy him. They are extremely smart so you have some great potential for training.

Good looking dogs.

JRs are neat little dogs but very high energy. A friend of mine had one and he wore her out everyday by tossing a tennis ball. She was a great little retriever and absolutely loved chasing the ball, she would just be panting on the edge of a heart attack and still wanting you to throw it again. Smart dog too, she learned to catch squirrels running along the ivy covered fence line by shaking the ivy when the squirrel was up there. If it fell she would pounce.

Very cute looking puppy Mickey! Many congratulations and may he bring your family a lot of joy!

I've seen my share of Jack Russell's in my store, they do have a lot of energy but, as always, there are exceptions and it is possible that yours will be a very calm dog! Otherwise be prepared to see him run and jump around a lot!

A few people told me here and there over the years that they could have quite the temper but I've never had any problems with the ones I've seen, provided that he is properly trained (and I don't doubt you will train him well) he will be an amazing member of your family!

I had one, died from cancer and broke my heart. He was very hyper and not afraid of anything. They do need a lot of attention, not a dog for everyone. If you don't give them attention they will get it from you in ways you will not like. No type of creature had a chance in my yard when we had him.

I rescue Min Pins and Dachshunds. All the small terrier breeds have the same issue. Min Pins and Jack Russels were bred to hunt rats and mice. They had to be small because the peasant class of Europe were not allowed to own large dogs. Dachshunds were bred to hunt badger down in the badger's den.

I have the same soap box. People who do the research and work with the dog, train the dog and who are the one in charge of the dog, do fine with these high energy, high prey drive dogs. You would not believe how many of these small hunting breeds get dumped by owners who are not prepared for them.

Congrats on your pup. Keep him busy and engaged and get him neutered by the time he is 6 months old and you will have the most awesome dog ever! Getting any terrier breed fixed by 6 months is crucial, especially males. The hormones can distract them from becoming well behaved members of your pack.

As I type, Mad Max, my 11 year old Min Pin is resting his head on my leg. He is an awesome dog! The most important training goes on in those first months of puppyhood. Best of luck!

Congrats again, he is adorable. I really prefer males over females. They are much sweeter, at least I find. I have 2 out of 9 dogs that I have had as pups, one dachshund and one Min Pin (though Max doesn't look like a Min Pin). 8 of the 9 are rescues.

Be prepared to have dead animals :) Birds, mice and snakes are the favorites at my house. One of my Dachshunds will kill a snake in seconds....no fear.

Oh and they usually start slowing down by about 8 or 9 years....hehehehe.

Great looking pup. I have wanted one for years, but we have 2 mini schnauzers at the moment, and can not have any more. Thank for sharing!

Congratulations!

The JRTs we've had (2) have been wonderful dogs. We still have our 13 year-old companion Elliott. Like it's been said, they are high-energy and strong-willed. Ours have been great with our children, and our 2 year-old daughter calls Elliott "her boy".

Elliott came to us from a JRT rescue group, as he was deaf from birth. Although it has sometimes been a challenge we would never change anything about him. We are dreading the day he dies, it will be a hard blow to our family.

A quick story out of many: You can see a small scar above Elliott's mouth. He killed a poisonous snake in our yard when our son, then 5 years old, came out to the yard. Elliott barely made it to the vet to be given antidote.

Again, congratulations. They are wonderful, loyal dogs.

Our boy Huey is 11 but still has bags of energy, a very grumpy sod at times too but, that said I wouldn't be without him & would flip a watch in a heartbeat should he need vet care...
