Rolex Daytona 116520 SS - Modding with leather strap
I guess this might be controversial to some, so move on if you want. :-)
I like the Daytona, but I also like it slightly different from how Rolex wants it. It's in the details. The dial, the strap, the endlinks and the buckle. I guess I should have bought a white gold Daytona, but I like steel. And my wallet likes steel too. I had already swapped the dial and got endlinks from TRF member etur. But the leather strap with a no name buckle didn't feel quite right to me. And the buckle was just sitting in the drawer, so why not order a leather strap made for the white gold Daytona? I guess I'm too cheap to buy Rolex own, but using a knife and tools on that is just too risky. And, the fitting is different. So I bought a no-name band from eBay. It was a bit fiddly to cut things right, but I got there in the end. Pics |

Looks good! Can we see more head on pics with the dial included?
Is there a way to burn the edges where you cut the leather so the "hairs" arent sticking up? Nice Job! |

Looks great, I think the daytona looks better on a strap than the Pcl band.

Brave new creation. I do like the panda arabic dial and searched for a good deal to get a TT Daytona with one.

What about something without stitching, like the jedley offerings? Or a cheaper alternative- the DiModell nappa...

Love the dial but not a fan of the strap. The white stitching kills it for me. Cheers.

Thank you for great comments!
I'll post more pics later. This was a test run to see how feasible it was to put on myself, with tools available to me, I don't want to consult a watchmaker for every change I want to make. Now, when I know that it's rather easy to do, I'll look into different straps and I might go for more high quality alternatives later. |

Very well done. I like straps on most watches. Only the Sub and Dwellers IMHO need to be on a bracelet or rubber.
