USXC Snowmobile Race in front of house today. (Photo heavy)

It's Minnesota, so one has to either enjoy winter or leave. The USXC Detroit Lakes 200 Snowmobile Races are being held this weekend, and the track runs 30 meters from my beach. I took these photos this morning during qualifying on "Chitwood Corner" directly in front of my house. The 600cc class sleds can hit 125 mph on the straights.

You need to get some studs on the Harley and show em how to lay it over!

That would be fun to watch. We don't get enough snow to make it worthwhile to have a sled or I would have one.
On years when the ice on a lake near here gets thick enough they have a snowmobile drag race to raise money for spinabifida(sp) research and I usually go. I have seen 136 mph in 1000 feet. Crazy !

I rode a snow mobile once when I was young and it was the most fun I think I've ever had. Great shots and thanks for sharing.

Great pictures! Many years ago (well over 40!) we had an Arctic Cat -- single cylinder, but it was fun

Awesome! I am heading back to Montana in a couple of weeks and will be doing a lot of sledding. I can't wait.

I miss my sled!

Sold it and my enclosed trailer last year. Just couldn't justify the time away from the kids( they are not old enough to sled) playing when I am traveling almost every other week to my Az office.

Had some of the most fun you can have...legally sledding!

Me on the right.

I went back out this afternoon and took more photos from a new angle, on the other side of the turn looking toward my house:

Loving your photos! I would have really enjoyed watching those sleds from the comfort of my home.

I took this photo out my dining room window of race officials setting up the race course for tomorrow's 200 mile USCX snowmobile race. I plan to go out onto the ice with my camera for awhile. I wonder what the wind chill is when it's -30 F and you're traveling 130 mph?
