Rolex for anniversary??

Been a member here a short time and read a lot of info from all.

Took the advice from the board and made contact with my local AD to start a relationship. Been looking for years at Rolex and have been fascinated by them. Always on cruises, I locate the Rolex AD in that port and go drool and my eyes glaze over as I slip a Sub onto my wrist. I think the time has come to pull the trigger and get my obsession with Rolex tempered and call that Sub on my wrist,,,mine.

Read many threads on here about purchasing in Bahamas, Hawaii, VI or local AD for the memory of the purchase. I think I have the perfect reason for my purchase and the memory,,,,mine and my wife's 25th wedding anniversary.

25th is Silver I think, so I've priced out for me the SS Sub 116610LN and for my wife the 26mm Lady Date-Just in SS and white gold with pink MOP face and diamond markers.

List on my sub is $8550 discounted to $7951, 7% off. The wife's list is $11,200 discounted to $10,080, 10% off, this is from my local AD, also if I have the watches shipped to my address in SC, I will save 6% sales tax on both watches which equals $1082.

We just came back off a cruise over Christmas and was in St. Maarten and St. Thomas and got prices of 10-12% off at the Rolex AD's in both ports. All in all, I'm satisfied with what my local AD has offered me to begin my Rolex adventure. What say you???

Sounds like you have a plan.

I suggest you include your wife in the selection of her watch. Watches are personal.

Happy anniversary and good luck with your gift. If you must go new, a 10% discount sounds decent, but why not go used from a reputable seller here?

Kind of wanted my first purchase to be from an AD. Nothing wrong with pre loved watches, my next one, TT sub, could very well come from a seller on here. Want first to be new and the experience of the Rolex AD here local. Kind of like the new car smell, can't get that buying used.

Sounds like your minds made up. Enjoy the experience from your local AD. It gets expensive taking a vacation to buy a watch and it will not take long for you to buy your next one!

For not a lot more, I'd go with the local AD and develop a nice relationship. But, the advice to include your wife (assuming she's not been in on the decision) is good advice!

Why not a BNIB from a TRF and save 20%. I'm with you on new (rather than pre-owned) for a significant gift.

I have developed good working relationships with AD's and they offer me very generous discounts so I believe developing a good working relationship is very important.

I bought my Sub-C and Daytona from a local AD. Probably paid too much but at least saved tax in a neighboring state. Awaiting a YM Blue from DavidSW and saved a lot, plus no tax. First purchase from AD with those discounts is pretty good, but you might be able to save even more from David.

You have waited 25 years to buy your first Rolex. Does not sound like you will be buying another one. For only 5 percent more savings I would just bite the bullet and buy locally. Wifey would probably feel better about the purchase too. Like i said for on an extra five percent why mess with it.

Sounds like you've done your research.

The AD offer sounds quite reasonable from my experience with ADs.

As others have said, if you haven't already, make sure your wife likes the watch she is going to be wearing.

That done, go forth and celebrate your anniversary.

I think you can get your ad down a little more on the sub , push him ! But at the same time , previously tested for yourself might not be a bad idea and you can save some bucks . IMO
