UK or Vegas

Hi All,
i have my big 40 birthday coming up in a few weeks time and i have decided to treat myself to that Rolex i have alway wanted.

i have been to my local AD and have decided on a Datejust 116234.

i have managed to negotiate a 15% discount from the AD but the dilemma i have is that i am also travelling to Vegas in a few weeks and wonder wether i can get a better deal buying there ?

your opinions would be appreciated.

If you buy out of state you dont have to pay sales tax.

Regardless of that, if it is being imported back into the UK, you are liable to pay import duty, which adds approximately 20-25% on top of the value that you pay

OP, if your dealership is offering you 15%, take it, because those kinds of discounts are getting rarer all the time in this country. You'll struggle to do better

I don't know about discounts but man, the AD in the Wynn is nice to check out. Good luck in Vegas!

I'll be on the lookout for a "WTT: 116234 for plane ticket home" thread.

If there is a risk of being accused of avoiding taxes when you return home, just buy it in the UK. Why ruin a wonderful experience of acquiring your dream watch for a few bucks. It seems like you are getting a good discount from your AD.

Congrats in advance.

Take the 15% off in the UK. Everything I've read here says Vegas doesn't discount.

Happy Birthday and enjoy your trip (and watch)!

You are getting 15% off. It's a good discount, stop over analyzing and go buy it so you can enjoy it. Just my $.02...

Congrats on the FOUR O!!

Cheapest would be for you to contact a trusted seller here and have them ship it to your hotel in Vegas. Travel to vegas sans watch and then just wear it back (have it re-sized in Vegas if needed) with it!

To be honest . . . . I would by it in the US . . . than the watch has an extra story . . .

Years ago we went to the States and I bought myself this Rolex in Vegas . . . . .

Just my .02

Buy it in the UK. The discount is more than fair.

I've walked past the AD in the MGM Grand many times, wondering how many people have made that their first stop after hitting the jackpot. I also wonder how many times someone has tried to sell him their Rolex for cash so they could keep playing.

If you are flying from Heathrow T5, give Mapping & Webb a call to see if they have one in stock - Duty/Tax Free 20% off RRP.

Also have a Great 40th Birthday!!!

yeap , was just about to say , try Heathrow. I bought 2 rolex one from T5 and another from T4 last year. It actually works out at 16.66 percent off. Unless your buying preowned or full gold version you will not get better then from an AD in UK nowadays.
Second time in december I took the watch and left the box and sale lady was waiting in arrivals with box when I returned.
You used to be able to pay in advance and reserve models and even get ss models like the sub c and gmt but that may have stopped now

It's actually 16.6% off which is pretty close to the discount being offered already plus there's no risk of getting stung for VAT when re-importing the watch.

To OP, buy the watch and wear it to Vegas. Forget the inflight entertainment, you'll spend the entire time staring at your wrist!!

Thanks for all the replies, i had thought about buying at heathrow but i am flying out of Gatwick as the flight was about £800 cheaper.
I think ill buy it here and wear to vegas and hope the gambling goes well enough that it is still on my wrist when i return.

Excellent decision. Make sure you come back and show us the photos once you've got it!

UK, AD support and all that + why risk an illegal activity, unless you declare it on return. The Heathrow option is would have been worth a call, I have looked in at T5, but for a few hundred quid saving I'd still prefer the comfort of the local AD

Considering the discount it's a no brainer. Building a relationship with an AD will help you in the future as well.

Take the discount, get to know your local dealer. You'll be seeing him a lot after the Rolex bug bits you. :)

Taking your money to Vegas is a good way to come back empty handed. :)
