Just for the fun of it, how about the prices for some "proper" cars? Last column is the price.

I always thought cars were more expensive in Finland. Not so with the passat. Last column is the price in Holland.

That is where Finland reclaims it's victory, Andreas Notice that the M5 is the cheapest M-car here and represents fantastic value compared to the other M cars or even a regular 550i.
Main reason is that apart from VAT we have a car tax as well. In the old days it was a percentage of the base price, then it changed to a hybrid system depending on base price and carbon dioxide emissions. As the F10 M5 has a relatively clean engine it's actually considerably cheaper then an E 60 M5 and for the same reason even cheaper than an M3. As of 2013 the car tax is fully based on carbon dioxide emissions, making the M5 lest costly again. I think there's a difference of about € 25-30k in MSRP between the E60 M5 and the current F10 M5.

Same here Freerk, based on emissions. Funny though, that the M5 is considerably more expensive than the M3 over here... Good old bigger car, more expensive play at work over here it seems.
The E60 was the same price as the F10 when launched back in 2005. the E39 was about125K new if my memory serves me right.

So here Australia seems to be the winner! Thankfully we have no "luxury car tax", but better speak softly about that, so no one hears about it.
