Great thread. Have been wanting to take flying lessons for a while and this thread may just give me the push I need.

That Mallard is NIIIICE!
By the way, I just barely squeaked in under the wire, refreshing my CFI and getting all the paperwork in by midnight 1/31. I do NOT want to have to retake that checkride.

JUST! Harumph CFII/MEI. Not ATP yet. I really would rather not have to take that written, and it'd take awhile to get back my proficiency for the ride.

I flew as a loadmaster on the C-141 Starlifter for 20 years. It was a great airplane with great performance and range. I was sorry to see her retired in 2006. Now most are chopped up. Enjoy a few of my favorite pics. The last photo is mine,, the others were from an aircraft website.
Flying low level, 300 feet at 300 knots. Its a kick in the pants ride. We would pop up to 1100 feet for personnel drops Heavy equipment drops was same thing, 1100ft at 140 knots or so. The special operations crews had jets outfitted with FLIR cameras, special radar and flare dispensers. Off into the sunrise, this is on the way to Antarctica for resupply mission This is me in Masira Oman during the Gulf conflict Last link is a youtube video of a personnel airdrop over the drop zone at Ft Lewis and McChord AFB. I flew out of there for 7 years and made many a drop on this DZ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtgcwJc6ScQ Cheers, Tim in Hawaii |
