Brand new sub c got gauged on the lock plate on the door frame.

Years ago while at the gym I dropped an Omega while buckling the strap, it fell face down on the tile. It hit just right because crystal was shattered.

I use two mouse pads. One for my watch so the bracelet doesn't get all scratched up when at the keyboard.

Was wearing a 90's Sub at work and somebody called my name and as I spun around in the hallway to acknowledge them.. there happend to be a metal stand of some sort and I made direct contact flat on with the face and the crystal just cracked from end to end. My heart sank! If looks could kill then.... you get it. I wasn't too happy. Luckily I sent it up to RSC NY and they were able to replace the crystal and the watch was ok.

Some crazy stories here!

Knock on wood, nothing too devastating. The everyday bumps and such happen often, and most of the time there is no damage.

On my first few days of wearing my Daytona I was walking into my office and banged the crystal right on the door knob. It was quite a bang right on my crystal. Unfortunately an ugly scratch resulted right in the center of the crystal. RSC replaced it at no charge when I took it in for a service (under warranty)

I lost a couple over the side of my sailboat when trying to bring down the mainsail in the face of an incoming storm. Loose halyards can whip about with quite a bit of force. This was before I was really into watches, so fortunately they were just cheap Casios. I never go near a boat with anything but NATOs anymore.

Rubbed the crystal of my Dweller to the underside of the TV stand when trying to get a DVD form the stack. Felt the glass bite & thought the TV stand would collapse on my arm. Other way around, the glass stand was fine & the crystal gauged. There's a lesson.

In 1971 I drove to get some car parts. I couldn't wait to put in the new air filter so I took off my ID bracelet, college ring, and Oyster Perpetual) Rolex. I set them on the car bumper, put in the filter, and drove off. A few miles later I realized what I had done!

I drove back and found the bracelet which I still have, and the Rolex. Never found the ring. The watch looked like it had been run over. I took the train (from NJ) to NYC and dropped it off for a service (it had stopped) and a new bracelet. I don't remember what they did to the case. It came back looking perfect for a charge of $55, about half of what it cost at that time.

The door, door frame, door handle, and any of the metal hardware on doors are like a magnet for my watches. I am probably just a careless watch wearer.

The other damage that has happened several times is having the crown or lug or some sharp part of the watch get caught on my backpack strap while taking the backpack off. I have broken crown, bracelet, strap, and pins this way.

Two stories for me. First I was helping a buddy move a TV and kinda got my watch arm jammed against the door as we passed through. I could hear the awful scraping noise but I couldnt drop the TV. I looked at my watch a TT DJ there was a hunk of paint and wood off of the door stuck on the bezel and edge of crystal..I knocked it off and NOT a scratch!!! Rolex durability right there my friends!! Second story I bought a gold polishing cloth and decided I would really clean my Rolex, didnt realize that these cloths actually act as a pretty harsh abrasive, rubbed some of the brushed finish off!!!! Just warm soapy water and a soft towel from then on.

5 year old thread, but would like to comment on this. My godson's puppy was a big time biter and chomped down on my Smurf. Left a pretty good mark. I recently had the watch serviced and requested that it not be polished at all. I wanted to leave that mark. One day, he will inherit the watch and know the story of what his puppy did. I'll leave it to him whether to polish it out or not.

Door frames were like Kryptonite for the AP Offshore steel bezels I've owned. Knock on wood, my 15202 right now does not have a single mark yet after 60 or so wears.

My MacBook has also not been great to a few clasps... I no longer wear a watch when typing on my MacBook.

An attempted alien anal probe back in 2014. I instinctively put my hand up to block the probe ray - I was wearing a Panerai 449 the first time which was mostly vaporized - but this time all the heavy metal goodness in the GMT BLRO stopped that probe dead cold.

No damage to the watch but the entire case was turned into Unobtanium, making my BLRO even more valuable than the Newman Daytona.

....and I just made that up but I do tend to flail my arms wildly about with my watches generally making contact with any nearby metal object - airplane seatbelts, door jams, car parts, kitchen utensils, etc.

Taking off my pants

I undid my belt, and the buckle slipped out of my fingers and took a swing at my Speedy. Fortunately, it only made contact with an end link, but it left a surprisingly decent dent. But on the bright side, now I wear it for whatever and don't worry about it...unless I'm around water!

Relaxing Horizontally on the sofa, reading these forums, and admiring my watch. I set my watch on my chest. Fall asleep (must have been a boring thread). Awoke and stood up. Watch fell to wooden floor. Still keeps great time @ +1.8 seconds per day. This was bout two years ago. I generally don't worry about scratches and dings - in fact I prefer a "worn" look to a pristine look. I would be bummed if I ever do damage to the crystal or movement. Actually, the only reason I'd be bummed for breaking the sapphire is the risk of damage to the movement.
