Making homemade straps

Hey guys, I've just begun to make my own homemade strap, well sort of. What I've done is I've taken an existing cheapie Timex strap and I've aged it a bit and cut it down from a 20mm strap to about a 17 mm strap, so when I'm done I can fit it possibly to one of my vintages. I'm not totally done with it yet but when I am I will definatly post some pics when i am. I was just wondering if any of my fellow TRF members have made any homemade straps either from an existing strap( like I'm doing) or completely from scratch. If you have I'd love to see some pics.

I started to make one from an old rawhide horse halter...

It looks "rustic" to say the least!!!

I finished the "male" side and even sourced a buckle for the other side but I've never got round to finishing it.

Maybe one day I'll have another go but if I do I'll buy some better leather and a few tools (the one I've started I used nothing but a hunting knife and a surgical needle and thread normally used for stitching wounds on horses!).

Do you have any pics of it? It sure sounds very interesting to say the least! I know that mines not going to be absolutely perfect since its my first strap making endeavour, but it's still a fun experience. I'm currently looking for a new buckle to replace the original crappy china made Timex buckle it came with.

I'll try to dig it out of my tack room and take a picture tomorrow.

Here is a couple of straps that I was fooling around with. I used a couple of old American Eagle leather belts that I had. I'm not the best at it especially the stiching but anyway here is a picture

Very cool looking! When I decide to make another strap I'm going to use an old belt as well. Im having fun taking an existing cheapie Timex strap and "rebuilding" it into a cool, weathered looking strap. Today I did some more work on it by soaking it in water a bit and then blow drying it to give it a more crackled look. So far it's coming along well. Once I finish I will post pics of the whole process.

Why don't you try to make one yourself? I'd say that I would make you one, but I'm not at all good enough at it yet.

Thanks guys!
Maybe I'll finish the other side after all. The only problem would be that then I really COULDN'T get my Sub wet!
