I guess this is what happens when one has acquired legendary horology references and everything just seems common! My Rolex grail is below...

I used to like very expensive cars and watches until I found out they need expensive maintenance. Rolex is probably the only brand in the world that would buy your way out of a prison in any 3rd world country so I'm good with my sub.

I think grail has now just become shorthand for "the watch I would love to have".
I think it should mean the object, that once secured, ends the search forever (or close). If someone has purchased their grail watch and then given up on searching for and buying other watches for at least 10 years... then I think that was truly a grail watch for them. |

We all know the term grail is subjective, however, for me and my collecting habits a timepiece grail was to obtain a birth year 1655. Some folks associate grail with cost... Not me.

There are currently 2 watches right now that I would love to have and due to the price of each of them they would be my "grail" watches.
I would like a 1980 Explorer 2, similar to Sam above. I chose 1980 as this is my birth year. Only since joining TRF have I heard of people buying a birth year watch and I kind of like that idea, having a watch on my wrist that is the same age as me. Of the modern collection it is most definitely the WG Sub or "Smurf". I love it. I think both of them, while not attainable right now, fall into the price range that they are reasonably achievable some day for me. While a $100k Patek with many complications is probably a true Grail I could never see myself spending the money on one. Unless I won Euromillions |

There are plenty of great complicated watches that would be nice to have from PP, VC, etc... But in the long run I think I would appreciate a watch that I can wear daily with useful complications TO ME (although an amazing complication, I don't need a minute repeater letting me know every hour).
With this in mind, I think this one I would enjoy the most: Patek Philippe 5960p Why? It has an annual calendar which only needs adjusting on February 28th (can't live without the date), it has the first in-house PP chronograph caliber(great for timing steaks!), it has luminous hands (sleep with watch on and always look at time in middle of night), it's made of platinum (corrosion free, strong, flies under radar) it's water resistant (put this baby on a NATO and its ready to go swimming), and the icing on the cake - it has a power reserve and a diamond! |

The Patek 5167A is my grail. Would I sell other watches for it? Not a chance. They have more sentimental value than any new watch would have.

As already said by others, my "grail" changes. For me, it's almost daily as I look at the WRUW threads on this forum. Pressed for an answer today, I'd have to say the YG DDII, white dial with romans.

Think I am with Ben on this, ie a 5208P, but also have a hankering for a 5213G, and a Richard Mille RM012 Platinum.
I also have one AP ROO grail, and I think I may have found one, but will only reveal which once I have secured it! |

Rolex grail? recently added the Daytona so that is already an achievement for me. Maybe next is YMII. But hope to also add the Exp1 (sold to fund Daytona) and DSSD (maybe, maybe not) first.
