Incoming! A dual personality and my very first...

Greetings TRF,

I know I've just posted an incoming thread but the watch I'm about to show you arrived at my apartment last Friday. Since I was very busy this weekend I didn't have the chance of posting pictures and by the time I could manage to present it to you Mark's gift had arrived, therefore the order of my threads had to change!

Funny thing is, I really feel like my friend Tony (learningtofly) right now with those two incomings on the very same day! This one is for you my good friend...

Without further introduction, allow me to show you my very first...

...Pocket watch!

It's nothing very fancy but when I saw it I must admit I found it very nice! It's rather thin, not too large (I believe it might be around 42mm) and the date complication is a rather useful addition. Besides, the incabloc shock protecting device makes it much easier to service!

The crown with its W (or is it an M? ).

Waltham is quite a well known brand when it comes to vintage pocket and wrist watches, I believe they make some pretty good timepieces that aren't too expensive, the ones I've seen so far were always quite beautiful. Given that this one has an incabloc I'll assume it might not be the oldest one around but I still like it very much, the gold plating is still in a good shape and the places where it has faded show some brass that aged and has a beautiful patina on it.

Hand shots...something you don't see too often around here...

Now that's pretty much it for the watch, I believe a small brass chain could be nice if I ever want to "wear it" in my pants, I'll have to think about that. In the meantime, I must say that...

...Wait...

...What is this..?

...It's a watch...

...No...it's a clock...

...No! It's a...

...Wack!

Here's the main reason why I bought this watch! I found the brass stand very nice and thought it would make a very lovely table clock (I already have one that is waiting for a service when I'll be able to work on it but you never have too many timepieces...). I must say that the watch has been "overwound", which means the mainspring's grease probably dried and blocks it, I'll have to clean it and put some fresh oil in it before I can start using it as a proper clock, I like challenges...

Thank you for watching, feel free to comment!

Thank you guys! It definitely needs a service but otherwise it's in a great condition!

I've been toying with the idea of getting a pocket watch for use. Need to buy a vest though.

You have no idea how many I admired before deciding to go for this one! I decided to forget about a fancy solid gold model now and concentrate on getting a cheaper (price-wise) one that would probably be more useful given the stand it came with!

As for buying a vest, you don't need to! You can always be more punk-ish, dig the watch in your jeans' pocket and let the chain hang out!

Ahh...fun read with a little surprise twist. Very nice, Carl.

I, too, have been looking at pocket watches - especially the older ones with the beautiful engravings.

Thank you Craig! Although it's harder to wear one nowadays I'm sure you'd be thrilled if you bought one for yourself.

I'd love to own this one. I could see dressing punk with it.

Oh goodness, this is quite a punk-ish watch indeed!

Very nice though, I like the cushion shape case, it makes you recognize the brand right away!

It isn't very big but at the same time it is convenient as it won't take too much space on a desk. Besides, the large dial makes it easy to read.

Thank you Wes!

Just for you my friend!

The first picture is very crisp, it's a beautiful movement

Can you adjust something on the balance? I'm asking this because of those plus and minus signs on the balance-bridge.

Well I don't know if it's because it's broken or because they decided not to put one in this very movement but in most models I've seen a small arrow pointing the plus or minus signs to help you, I'm afraid I didn't look closely, I'll look into it another day at school with my loupe.

Thank you for the compliment on my picture!

That's a nice one Carl! Case just needs a light polish and it'll be good to go.

Thank you Kyle! I'm not sure I'm going to polish it though, I think I like its aged look...
