Since the introduction of the GMT-IIc, I swore I would be an owner, everything about it was for me. Green is even my favorite color.

But...

Years have gone by and the GMT-IIc is starting to become dated and the introduction of the new Submariner has caused me to feel the GMT-IIc is not going to be that new fresh watch that I want it to be.

Cons of GMT-IIc: No blue lume, no glide lock clasp, older model/version (more susceptible to being updated which is my biggest concern)

Looking at the new explorer and new submariner, I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on a GMT-IIc as I feel the GMT-IIc is going to be updated.

Am I crazy?

The blue lume and the glidelock clasp sound like they might be worth waiting for. You've waited this long, but what if it's two or three more years?

I think the lume is better/brighter in my GMT than my SubC, and there is no telling whether there will ever be a glide lock clasp added to the GMT...in fact, I'd bet against it. Buy what sings to you.

Glidlock is awesome, but I found the shorter clasp to be more comfortable on the wrist. Blue lume is nice as well, but I am not sure how often you will get to see it in dark. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. I own both, and I seem to like the GMT a little more than the Sub.

I can see keeping the green lume (to match the green writing) but the glidelock seems likely. It doesn't add/detract from the overall look.

Btw, anyone know if you can swap bracelets from the SubC to the GMT IIc?

With as much doubt as you seem to be feeling already maybe the GMTIIC isn't for you at this point. I like the GMT, but currently own a sub. If I was to get the GMT it would be gold or TT.

The GMTIIc is far from dated. Given Rolex's history, this iteration of the GMT will be around for a long time.

The GMT is an amazing watch and defenitly not dated! I own a Sub-C and find it to be the perfect watch for me. You can't go wrong with any of the watches you mentioned. Buy it, wear it and love it!

As a GMT2C owner, i can honestly say that I would never trade mine for a SubC. Nothing against the Subc, but I just like the GMT2c more plus the 2nd time zone function is important to me. I don't really care for the blue lume or glide lock. The easy link is plenty useful when needed. As far as Gmt2c being an "older" model and susceptible to be updated by Rolex, I think you are looking at years down the road. Plus, all watches gets updated giving time. I say don't worry too much about that, buy the watch and enjoy it.

Sorry guys, didn't mean for the dated comment to swing that way. What I mean to say was, that the GMT-IIc being introduced in 2008 is not as fresh of an update as the Submariner. I am excited to be a rolex owner, I think the rugged but polished balance that rolex has is a perfect fit for me. Just trying to pick the right one for me (the first time)

GMTIIc will be around for a very long time in it's current iteration. I love mine. Every time I try a Subc on, it validates my decision. Buy what you love.

they way rolex changes models id say it would take another 20 years. and probably they will just change the lugs back to the original shape

Don't worry man. This is why you ask questions on this forum. People here are willing to help you out. At the end of the day, you will find hardcore supporters for these 2 watches... and for great reasons. So no matter what, either watch you buy will be the "right" one. Not trying to scare you, but once you buy either one of these watches... you may find yourself buying the other one as well. Its a known disease around this part of the forum... don't say I didn't warn you.

how is ur gmt 2C going to be dated? a v serial and a random serial will be the EXACT same watch....=) its a keeper and looks exactly the same as the sub so ur not missing out on much.....in fact i would recmmend the GMT over the sub for alot of ppl due to it having an extra hand!!

I like the idea of growing old with a watch I've had for many years. For me, a 'dated' watch is not a bad thing.

the GMT IIC is the finest modern rolex...

and don't let the Glidelock become a con...

the Glidelock is a lot longer and heavier and in the long run becomes really uncomfortable on the wrist...

re: glidelock, it's for the divers.

re: blue lume, most of the time, it looks green to me, anyway.

GMT-C is a great watch, but I wouldn't buy yet considering your hesitation and other options.
Spend some time at the AD trying them on. The green lume is not a deal breaker although I prefer blue if given a choice.
Basel is right around the corner. You never know what's coming....
