Blank warranty card....when does warranty really start?

Hi all, see many sellers here advertise blank warranty card....wonder when the warranty will actually start. Obviously I will not put my name and date until I need service but that could be years from now, would I then have another 2 years from that date? Thanks

No. Warranty starts when watch was purchased from AD not when you fill it in.

The Warranty Card system Rolex has in place is definately flawed. Sounds like you have a Grey Market watch which means no warranty.

Not necessarily. They were legitimately purchased from an AD so they would have a valid warranty as long as the card/paper was stamped and dated.

Grey market goods have no manufacturers Warranty. You only get warranty if the watch was purchased by you or the original owner at an AD with there name and original purchase date. It does not mean your watch is not Authentic by any means it just means no warranty. Most legitamate Grey dealers offer there own warranty.

My understanding is that Every Rolex comes from an AD unless you won the Daytona 24 hours, or you are Tiger, Federer, Domingo, etc.

Gray dealers have strong relationships with ADs, and that's why some will have a card with ADs name but no date or name of purchaser. The Rolex warranty is global therefore it is not an issue where in the world the watch came from.

If you want to be on the safe side and 100 percent sure call a Rolex Service Center ask them there warranty policy. They will gladly tell you over the phone.

computers and databaases

In this time and age, how hard is it for a Rolex service center to punch in the serial number and know exactly which AD that watch came from and when.

I can see if some ADs have a working relationship with another AD and swap inventory from time to time but if warrantee card doesnt have any AD stamp, its obvious grey market.

I can see that an open warrantee card might be useful if the watch were to be presented to an AD where they dont have access to the database and the warrantee card is the only proof of time and location of the purchase. This is more common for brands like Omega where in the past, they were more lax. An independent Omega servicing center will just want to see the warrantee card as proof of warantee period. Alot of independant Omega servicing centers and dealers have lost their Omega license in the last few yrs.

ROLEX USA warranty policy.

However, not to be confused with ROLEX SA (international).

I've had no issues getting used watches (with someone else's name on the warranty) serviced under warranty from Dallas RSC.

However, not to be confused with ROLEX SA (international) which is separate and aside from ROLEX USA (SA eliminates the above referenced language which suggests the SA warranty is transferable).

"Whose name appears" refers to the AD, not the buyer. Like its been stated a thousand or so times on the forum and verified by Rolex, in accordance with US law, the warranty is 100 percent transferable

As said, warranty starts when the watch was purchased ... if you send a watch with obvious model year / card date discrepancies, the warranty will not be honored (besides it being dishonest behavior).

When you say blank card, do you mean name / date? If there is no AD stamp then there is no warranty regardless of date or buyer's name (btw, the buyer's name on the card is irrelevant).

Thank you for the clarification, though I believe it can be read either way. To me, it seems to be unclear on purpose.

It is extremely interesting and crafty language.

Not quite ... "by the Official Rolex Jeweler whose name appears ..."

Correct. A friend of mine bought a BNIB 14060M a few years ago from an AD. For some reason the AD did not fill customer's name and date of purchase, but it has AD name as the warrantiy paper/card comes with this filled in from Rolex. If my friend should have any trouble all he needs to do is fill his name and date of purchase and send the watch in. Likewise should he sell it new owner can put in his name and date of purchase which should be original date purchased from AD.

Now, his watch is still under warranty from the date he purchased watch from AD, but lets say his watch has a failure after the 2 years from date of purchase have passed. Although not honest to do this, but if he were to fill the date in with a purchase date lets say a year after he purchased and sent to RSC, I don't think RSC would be able to track back to when he purchased. From what I understand ADs do not report sale dates od specific models back to Rolex once sold (Chris can you chime in on this?).

I'm not sure it's possible to have a warranty card/paper without ADs name as Rolex sends them to ADs already filled.

Thanks.

You are correct my friend. I don't know how they would prevent this. I don't think the AD reports anything to Rolex and Rolex does not keep any registry other than the pieces they have already serviced.

When I got one of my watches from my AD, they left the name and date field blank.

They asked me if I wanted filled out, but I told them leaving it blank was fine. What this this mean for me?

FYI, my other watches purchased from the same AD had the name/date fields filled.
