Submariner dial evolution question

Ok back from visiting an AD toady, it's actually only my second time with the watches live.

here's a question about the new maxi dial

I am ok with the changes to the hands, etc , but my question is, is the dial shinier than in the past? I know the white gold trim makes the face more expensive but I think it actually makes it easier to produce. How long has the dial had that trim ?

May seen like a weird question but no level of detail escapes this crowd and I appreciate that

I ask because I am actually intending this as a daily beater and I see that it has evolved into a dress watch despite it's shape and heritage.

Is anyone actually diving with one these days ? Any coast guard guys on here? Mariners?

Don't mind me I'm just over thinking again, and would love some education, from the dial gurus

You can wear the Sub from uniform to Dress mess and everything in between with zero issues. Switch up the bracelet on a whim and have a completely different watch. The SUB is the epitome of the perfect everyday and everything watch. I will say that the Sub C bezel catches light a lot more than the SS models, and will get more looks if in uniform.

Well said.

Since purchase, I wear my one of my subs with my uniform every day. Typically my 1680 with working uniform and my 16613 with khakis or dress.

Yes but these are older. My question was about the subc and whether it pops and is way more glossy than older models

Yes, the SubC pops LOUDer than the older models. The bezel is quite impressive and really catches the light, even In low light settings. The dial is improved (maxi dial), thicker hands as well. In terms of dail shininess compared to the older models, it looks more shiny to me overall.

The Subc is not in the same class as the vintage Subs in IMHO,

Gotcha.

Well if you think the SubC is too flashy, maybe go with a nice vintage piece. If you like the look, you can even go with a leather stap to dress it down more.

The change from matte to glossy dials started in the 1980s with the 16800 Subs. I believe the series started as matte dials in the late 1970s and then transitioned to glossy dial with WG hour markers in the early 80s. It was around this time that the Sub became more "dressy", especially when the 16610 was released around 1990.
