I have been eyeing up the YM 2 with the Blue dial.
What are the main differences between YM1 & YM2. Is the earlier one more desirable? |

It's great to see this thread still going strong and with the addition of the new blue SS/Plat dial owners.
It's the Rolex that's not for everyone, which baffles me. Such a gorgeous piece. |

Love this thread . . .
such a vastly underrated piece, and still a great value on the secondary market. Just got mine back from RSC and love it all over again.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was your Yacht-Master trip to RSC and was it just a basic servicing? Did you have the bezel touched up / re-sandblasted or did you ask them to leave it as is? Thanks! |

It was a standard service
Quote:
I bought the piece while on vacation in Bermuda around 7-8yrs ago and it had not been serviced. I was dropping off a few other pieces so I decided to bring this one as well. I believe the standard service ran $600 but I can't locate the invoice right now. Cosmetically it was already in decent shape so the bracelet and clasp PCL's were really the only thing that needed a touch up with any polish. I didn't specifically ask them to leave the bezel alone but they didn't touch it either. |

I have two TTs, one 28, and the midsize stolen from my husband when he got his Explorer II. What I REALLY want, but they don't have (yet anyway) is a SS/Plat midsize with blue face.

i hope this helps push many of you over the fence and treat yourself to the blue ym i traded "up" from the platinum dial (z serial) which i PROUDLY wore for 5yrs.
i rotated it with a pepsi gmt, white daytona, and recently a green subc; i found that the pt dial 'clashed' with the white of the daytona sometimes. i honestly could not imagine a rotation without the YM. yes indeed, i hold the YM as the most underrated, best buy of a rolex, and all around easily one of the THREE-MUST-HAVES in a multi-maker rotation (i am a huge fan of AP) i feel the blue adds a LOT of character and choice to the rotation now. and i maintain having that beautiful platinum bezel, the brilliance of the polished bracelet, and an advantage of the newer clasp. if you are uncertain about the blue of the YM, i can say it DOES look like a black-dial watch on somebody's wrist from 5 meters away. depending on eyesight, it also creates a rather interesting look if you cannot make out the pronounced polished numbers on the bezel. in sunlight the blue throws some awesome shades. under direct artificial light i get the sense of a "3d layered" watch when the bezel pops and the blue sucks in for depth enjoy! http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/5440/ymsun.jpg |

Great pics. Member of the club here, platinum/SS really spoke to me even when I bought my sub years ago. Little did I know the sickness that would one day result in a torrid love affair with the YM - and other references as well. Hell, all of them.

Next watch?
The YM is a great, classy, subtle watch. Would love to have one to go with my ss Sub! Better for a dressy occasion.
