"screw down" crown or "push in"

I am wondering about the old crowns and which watches had which crown. It is my understanding that some old Rolex crowns were "push in," such as the "super oyster" crown. How can I find out more about this and how long the push in models were used. The reason I ask is that my crown simply pushes in and when I look at the tube with a loop I cannot see threads but rather a few concentric ridges that one may mistake for threads if not careful. If I were to have a screw down crown the watch would not be wind able as it will only wind when fully inserted. That said I have not been a ble to find a push in crown that looks like mine (cornet with one line under it.) The watch is a 53 pre-explorer case 6298. Thanks in advance!!
