Can't get much better than this - 1958 GMT 6542
I saw this on ebay today - a vintage GMT 6542 with original parts and accessories. The price is quite extraordinary too!

My grail, literally! I'll end up with a DRSD before I ever get close to one of those, but what a remarkable model and the history behind them is just as rich. Could you imagine being a fortune 50 in these days and ask rolex to build you a specific reference that " made sense in the the horological industry" . I wonder what their reaction would be in these times?

Ken, just saw your post. How about hooking me up and ask your buddy if I could wear it for a week. I promise to give it back .......lol.

Trent has quite a collection. Never met him but I know he has a great collection. The price is over the top though, at least that is my opinion.

What a watch! The coolest of the cool. I would love to see Rolex reintroduce a bakelite-esque luminous 24-hour bezel on a modern GMT. I make do with a 1675 with an aftermarket bezel.

Can you ask Trent how the box and papers were stored for 50+ years? Don't think I have ever seen that type of material that old without some yellowing.

He took it on consignment from someone if I remember correctly. Box looks right to me though from all of the ones specific to 6542 that I have seen. As for guarantee papers--they are what they are and one never knows but this was type that came with watch during that era as you know. Cheers,
