Opinion: 16800 vs 168000
I have been looking for a 16800 with matte dial but was just offered a 168000 100% original in excellent condition for $4500 out the door. Is that offer to good to pass up?

Its just the steel thats different. As far as transitionals go you want the matte

Don't know if either is really consider vintage but I would say the 168000 is collectable due to it's short run. I too would like to find one for my son's 25th BD.

The 168000 is one of the rarest Sub Dates and the first edition with 904L steel.. It is a transition model released for a year (or less) until the 3135 movement was ready for the 16610. Hard-core vintage guys will like the matte dials which are not typically found in the 168000, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the later surround gloss dials either and most folks won't know one from the other..

depending on true condition and coloring id say @ 4500 is a very good price-.
it was my first and think it's a beauty-

The triple 0 has a little colt following that will help it stay up in price. Although i like the matte dial. The matte 16800 is the perfect blend of now and then.
