After six months of watching the boards (and 40-some years of wanting one), I am happy to show off my 81xx 5513, which was pressed into my hot little hands by the postman not 60 minutes ago. It's exactly what I was looking for: head only, perfect dial and hands, even patina (although the pics make it look uneven) and a few dings on the case so I don't dread the first doorframe. And although it's not my birth year, it's the year I graduated high school. Sort of a graduation present to myself, 30 years after the fact.

I had a very pleasant transaction with Jonathan at Capetown Diamond, who was communicative, sent additional pictures and was very reasonable to deal with. The watch looks much better than Capetown's pictures. I'd actually passed it over a few times because it looked like there was corrosion on the hands. Maybe I should just be grateful that my reading glasses aren't as strong as their camera.

Thanks to everyone who contributes useful information and pictures to this forum. I could not have made an informed purchase without you.

Dave

Thanks, Glenn. The Milsub first got me thinking about 5513s so I put it on a NATO right away. I've got three or four more in the mail, including a leather one, a Bond and an Admiralty gray Phoenix.

That one is from wjean28 on eBay. Nice strap. Just a shade lighter than Admiralty gray but I like the material better than the Phoenix strap.

Dave,

I think we shall exhange the remaining figures by pm. Just to make sure that one of the watches is NOT a photocopy of the other

Nice to know that somebody has one within a less 3 digit difference serie somewhere. And to know his name.

Do you have the history where it was first sold by an AD and the date ?

All the best my friend. Enloy your watch

George, Athens, Greece.

First (and likely last) post but I enjoy the forum.

Mine is 8161xxxx also. Originally sold in the southern US, mid 1980s and received as a gift when I began work as a professional diver.

I bought this from Capetown Diamond in Atlanta. Maybe it was part of the same lot. BTW I'm in North Carolina so it's staying close to home.

Hi, George. I'll send you a PM. It'll be fun to see how close they are. I don't know any of its early history. It came with box but no papers. Funny to think one ended up in Georgia in the US and one in Greece.

Dave, yes thanks, PM returned.

This is Rolex's international profile. They are 271 numbers apart actually, but I do not know if Rolex engraves the full series numbers, that is 1,2,3,4,.....etc, or "jupms" just for security and / or other reasons. So, they can be even closer, worked on the same bench and by the same technicians !!

Two brothers immigrate to different countries, but meet each other after 30 years of hard work. One brothrer went west and ended up in the US for a better life in the land of promise, the other went south to find the roots of philoshophy, history, theater, medicine and sunshine. When they will meet again, after all these years, they will have a lot to tell to each other.

...and do not forget the Honolulu one of Kahuna100, who as a diver does not speak much, but may return and see the request, so we learn his xxx also as well.

So, this forum shall be happy to have brough may be three close series watches together again.

In this case, two is a company, three is an even better company and a TRF forums' first !!
