Lack of Subs/Seadwellers

Was at my AD today and they said they have not gotten any new SS Subs or SD for almost two months. They sold all they had before Christmas and had none to sell for Christmas.

They said they could sell as many as they could get as people come in looking for them all the time. What gives? Why does Rolex not keep these ADs supplied? Tons and tons of DJ (which rarely sell) and no Subs/SD.

You would think that Rolex would ramp up Sub and SD production and take it easy on the DJs.

but what do I know.

Anybody else notice this at ADs?

I've never seen any Rolex-selling store without at least 1 Sub and 1 SD.

The last AD I visited had 1 LV Sub and no SD's. When I walked out of the store they were minus 1 LV Sub.

Tons (well tons if tons is 2 or 3) of Sea Dwellers at the ADs around the DC area but the SS subs and SS GMT IIcs are sparse right now.

Well, over this end of the world, my local AD in North Borneo, now known as the Malaysian state of Sabah, has had an SD in the case for a while now. Each time I see it (when I drop in for a chat and to hang out in the watchmaker's office) I think hmmm... There's also a GMT IIC sitting in there too, in SS going for US8,190.00.

On the next order though, he's asked for 2 Sub Dates and he's been told by the distributor in Singapore, no can do. Shortage.

My AD's had an abundance of SS Subs and SD's prior to Xmas. Now, no one (of the 3 AD's I visited) has these models. TT Subs are still there, along with 2 TT GMT IIc's.

Same experience here. The AD I went to only had 1 Sub ND left and 1 Sub Date left. Tons of DateJusts and Day Dates.

Because the Subs were flying off the shelves I got a 0% discount.

The AD's here never have any sub dates around, or so it seems.

When they actually have one they rarely discount them. 10% Was the best I could do which comes to 5% once you incorporate the sales tax.

Which is why I buy lnib.......

Yes, you are right. When I was at Ben Bridge near my house, >>>

I noticed only 1 16750 GMT Master (pepsi) and the rest were just DJs and ladies models.

Oh well.

Last year, the same thing. The sales staff told me that they had all sold out. I thought that they were lying to me, but I guess I was wrong.

Odd............I 'sorta noticed the same thing in Panama. The AD did have every sport model (I don't recall looking for a Daytona) , but they had soooo many DJ's it was surreal. There was an incredible amount of DJ's, ladies and mens.

Whats up with that? Are DJ's a bomb?

P.S. Bomb = A hard to sell item.

The way that members on this Forum are snapping up Subs and Sea Dwellers, no wonder there is a shortage !
Now is definitely the time to buy if you want to get a classic Sub, before they get blinged up........

Yup, that's why I jumped at the Sea Dweller at an AD once I got a discount. I like the SD just as it is now, of course unless Rolex increases the depth rating with the (who knows when?) update...

Is it possible that Rolex is cutting back on overall production? If so, that would explain the Sub and GMT shortage. The DD's and DJ's would be still remaining from past production, as they are slower sellers.

When you think about it, this move would make a lot of sense for Rolex. Pulling back on the numbers would support the recent price increase as well as future increases. It would also create more mystique around the brand, in a similar way to what Panerai has done. Just a thought. Larry.
