What Would You Tell Rolex?

If you were able to give Rolex some suggestions, what might they be? Better service, more AD's? Different style watches?

I would love to see a Chrono Datejust. I love the Daytona, but want a date function also.

Cut the # of AD's to a few with better customer service, cut production numbers, better service on vintage pieces, cut the YM II, increase all men's case sizes to a minimum of 39-40MM, increase MSRP on the SS Daytona.

Pull their line from my local Ben Bridge. The store near me is full of stuck up and rude snobs and the hair on the back of my neck stands straight up whenever I go in there and have to deal with one of the sales persons. Their noses are so stuck up in the air they would drown walking in a rain storm.

I would say: cut Yachtmaster 2
cut Quartz series
cut daytona leopard (Bah!)
reduce Celine range (does anyone really buy them)

Please return hand-wind sports, daytona, sub,GMT,etc.
and limit production of these.

Cut the YM 11 and don't be too influenced by the "bling factor" which is a passing fad. Most Rolex owners are a pretty conservative bunch when it comes to design.
Make the Rolex website more informative. (J.M.H.O.)
Remind AD's (particularly independents) that the customer is doiung them a favour by patronising the brand / store and it is not the other way around.

To be honest, I'd kindly say please stop raising the prices.
But then again, higher prices are actually good for AFTER you already buy the watch so theres a trade-off there.

I also want to tell them to re-release the Bubbleback model for the brand's 100th anniversary of using the name Rolex.

Even though the lume on the watches remains disputable and I respect everyones opinion about it, I also would kindly tell them to put a lume on all watches that can stay bright longer than the superlumonva being used.



Other then these couple requests, I LOVE the brand for the way it already is.


Oh almost forgot the most simple of all:

I'd tell them that I love their watches more than any other in the whole world.

1. Better lume--like a Seamaster--on the sports models. I'd put my Sub on a NATO and use it as a tool if I could see the darn thing in the dark.

2. Don't increase the case size, and don't bling out the tool lines. Everyone else is doing that. If you want a 45mm SS diving watch polished to a blinding shine, get a Breitling.

3. Beef up the clasp and bracelet on all the tool lines.

4. Parachrom spring in all watches (this will happen eventually anyway).

5. I like the ceramic, but is there any way to dull the shine? Can you de-bling the numbers?

6. I don't mind paying $5k for the above, but why do I have to pay another $600 for service?

In order to promote the service Rolex offers, I would make the first service free.
I am pretty sure only a fraction of Rolex owners have their watches serviced on a regular interval (5-6 years). Once people get hooked on getting a 'like new' watch back every 5-6 years Rolex's service revenue would greatly increase.

Make Rolex more of an owner's company (like Patek) where they communicate with you after you've made your purchase. Move into a hand-made watch with a clear caseback to compliment its existing line. Reduce production.

Oh, and give me a free sample....

1. Put a date on the Daytona but without the magnifier.
2. Lose the centre polished links on the new GMT and Daytona bracelets.
3. Update the seadweller to use the new case and bracelet now so I could have an excuse to get a new watch.

1. Don't mess up the SD and Sub with the updates (i.e. no supercase and no center polished links). However, better clasp is appreciated.

2. Have MORE AD's (the more the better for me).

3. Don't follow fads (i.e. don't follow Breitling or the Omega PO, and no clear case backs).

I'd ask them to have a feature on their website that allows you to "build" your own watch with all the available options - kind of like the car sites do. As it is, I still am unsure what all of the Datejust options are - there are so many.

Geez, the perfect suggestions have truly rolled on in this thread! I don't find anything else to add, so I'll second one and to the others on service:

1. Don't bling out the professional/ tool watch line (my first wish)!

2. A little more freedom in parts procurement at RSC's and for appropriate watchmakers here in the U.S.. For example, could we keep the old dials & hands?

3. Can we get an RSC in Atlanta, Savannah or Miami? Or at least an authorized one like Chicago?

You guts have really rocked on this thread, it was nice to read!

A lot of things:first of all,in the past Rolex did some REALLY extraordinary watches(moonphase watch is perfect example),so I would like to see some re-interpretation of classics like that rather than Yacht-Master II or something that don`t look like Rolex at all.Second,AD`s should work on their customer service,cos` it`s no good!
And third:I would really like to see most prestigious chronograph in the world that is not handicapet with such common thing as date window is.So I would like to see Daytona with Date,it`s a real shame that Tudor Chronograph is more useful than much more expensive premium watch as Daytona(no offense for Tudor,I`m a big fan of Tudor Chronograph).

I say support vintage more; and do their best to keep these watches running for 100 years, even if they have to make parts. In 50 years if the balance breaks in my Y serial 16710, they will be able to restore function and give me that 1 year warranty.

I like the idea of having the first service be free. More likely to have people service them going forward.

  • Better lume.
  • Solid bracelets with higher quality clasps.
  • Bezels that are easier to turn.
  • Remove the "play" from the movement when setting the time.

That being said, they are pretty good the way they are IMO.
