Back in the Seventies, I operated one of 5 front end loaders on the loading dock of a potash mine in Carlsbad, NM, among other machinery.

By far the best of these to operate were the three Caterpillar 950 loaders that we'd use to fill hoppers in the warehouses. These were articulated machines like that one, but somewhat larger and with a more robust hydraulic system.

Three rooms in the older warehouse had hoppers similar to that one and the three rooms in the newer warehouse had sunken hoppers, so you could just build a pile on top of the grate.

I would spend 8-16 hours a day doing that in one of those rooms in one of those warehouses and did that fairly often, along with loading boxcars, hopper rail cars and semi-trailers, and sometimes operating the bagging machine for loading bags on boxcars.

Operating the loaders, especially in the new warehouse with the sunken hoppers, was probably the most fun I ever had on any job I ever had, but the dust was a real problem working inside as we did.

Having a bucket that would hold 2.5 tons and belts that would run at 4 tons a minute meant that you had to really stay on top of the job, if you ever wanted to take a break, so after months and months of doing that, I got to be pretty good at it.

So, it is with some level of competence that I say that that kid really knows what he's doing and besides that he doesn't have the advantage of operating the bucket from the seat where the levers would be more accessible.

Now, should a kid that age be doing all that?

Probably not, but what are you going to do?

hey kids can have the dexterity to play video games why not a machine probably his dad owns the place and taught him good for him he will have his Rolex in no time. I saw on the AX men the one guy taught his kid how to grab the wood and stack it on the trucks and he was like 4 or 5 yrs old incredible stuff kids are very adaptive and surprise me all the time.My kids do stuff on our computers that took me years to learn seems the learn over nite..
After seeing it again wow that kid drives better than most I see on the road today..
