Rolex Submariner 18k

On offer is this watch and I know very little about it.

Some elements do not ring true with this watch (IMHO).

First series gold 1680 ideally start with 2,178,xxx, at least all the black dialed models do. There is evidence of a 2,191,XXX blue dialed version with a feet first dial. That would be the earliest blue dial I have seen.

There is no designation on the dial for the luminous material of the watch offered. No T SWISS T as would normally be found on the gold nipple dials.

The watch does not have a first series bracelet as is most common on a meters first dialed watch.

These elements combined with no one ever documenting a meters first blue nipple dialed 1680/8 are enough for me to be very skeptical.

MAYBE this is just a model I'm not familiar with, but the four lines of writing look too high and the general proportions of the watch look WAY off. By the pictures I'd say this is certainly a fake. I'll let the experts say more but that's my gut reaction when looking at those pics.

hard to even make any of the writing out on my pc screen. may have to look at it zoomed in on a tablet. I certainly wouldn't feel good about it with those pics. not to mention the other facts pointed out thus far.

Agreed with the above points, and the coronet and the "Rolex" on the dial don't look right either. Probably a re-dial. And the polish on at least one of the lugs seems excessive. Looks like the pin is sticking out of that lug hole, although maybe it's the wrong pin size. Too many red flags, IHMO.

All of this seller's feedback is private. Personally I won't buy from them based on this alone. 18k Subs aren't that hard to find; you could go onto Bob's Watches right now and put one in your cart for 13k with no worries. In any case, enjoy your hunt.

A nice crisp 1680 18k is a rare watch as most are beat up over polished etc. IMHO a nice crisp one is north of 20k

Something must be grossly wrong with this 18k Submariner mod ref 1680/8 with 'meters' first. It was sold and re-listed. Reason: Non-paying bidder

If it is the authentic stuff, definitely it will be long gone and someone would be smiling, throughout his life-time.

Is the dial original or it had been under the knife?
