Am I Crazy?
I just bought my first Rolex a week ago and I can't help the urge to wear it everywhere I go. The problem is that I don't think wearing it to work would be wise since I'm in the construction/painting/maintenance field and it wouldn't be long before I trashed it. However, it drives me nuts to think of it sitting all by itself on the nightstand all day when I could be wearing it. I love wearing it so I am in a quandary. Do I bite the bullet and wear it anyway and just not worry about it getting scratched or dinged? I need some input if you would be so kind.
BTW, not that it matters much but the watch in question is my Pepsi GMT II. |

Tough call Felly. If you're crazy we're all crazy. I have a few beaters I could wear but I'm really only happy wearing a Rolex. Lots fo merit to the thought that you only live once. Why not live it wearing a Rolex?

If you have that type of work, I'd buy a watch winder and enjoy your fully wound watch when you get home.

We can't really judge the amount of abuse your watch is subjected to each day..
It's unlikely that you would do anything that would permanently damage your GMT, but it might need to be cleaned more than normal.. You might consider wearing a wrist 'sweatband" over your watch when you are doing a particularly messy job.. or you could just slip it into your pocket until after clean-up..

LMAO - no need for flogging, Felly. Maybe a couple of bumps on the head, though?!?

Having said all that, as soon as you scratch your beloved Rolex all bets are off. Just got back from a 9 day work trip that included cutting steel, heavy lifting , and dumpster diving [to fill it up as much as possible]. Wore my Tudor chrono and I'm thinking why the hell am I wearing a 3 to 4 K dollar watch at 4:00 in the morning while jumping in airport dumpsters? Sure enough I scratched the bracelet. Nothing devastating but it still sucks. But I figure better to enjoy it than have it sit in a drawer. dP

I work on construction sites too, although not really getting my hands dirty, but my SubDate has seen quite a few knocks and recently, my brand new ExpyII picked up it's first ding when I reached through some security bars to check on a window installation. It doesn't bother me at all because when I took my SubDate in for a service, it came back unrecognizable in the best possible way. And that was after almost 10 years of daily abuse.

Wear your watch, you are only keeping it good for the next owner otherwise.
Apply some common sense and if there is obvious chance of damage remove it. Easy.
