dropped of my rolex GMT II for service

This week I was at Beverly Hills, CA. and took my Rolex GMT II to the Rolex
service center. The watch was purchased in 2007, M series, and keeps good time.

My question to the service center was that every time I unscrew the crown is somewhat tight. The same goes when I have to screw it back the crown. Setting the time is nice and smooth. But when the crown starts catching on the tube it starts to get a bit tight.

I explained this to the receptionist and I was hoping a watch maker would come out. But she said they couldn't and I would have to relate my concerns to her and she would then relate it to the watch maker. The receptionist went back and came out and the watch maker recommend it service. That after service the crown would be like butter, and 600 dollars later. If there parts to replace it would be more otherwise 600 for cleaning/service only.

I told the receptionist the watch was like this since I bought it and I have a submariner and you can feel the difference. Again she recommended service and that they replace the tube with every service and that problem would go away.

What do you guys think. Can the service center really tell if the watch needs service when I hardly wear it. Also I would like to hear any positive/negative experiences with the RSC of Beverly Hills.

I think RSC will always advice for a service if a watch was not serviced withing 5+ years. This is the policy and they stick with it.
On the other hand, if you know that the watch has not undergone a stressful life, you may not really need a full service.

The truth is that a service can hardly harm the watch while not servicing it may lead to bad consequences.

The manufacturer follows the safe way and recommends to follow maintenance schedule tightly.

You could take it to a reputable watchmaker for a 2nd opinion.

the Service Center services watches... It's what they do and what they always recommend.. No, there is no way that they can "just tell" without taking the back off and doing some diagnostics..

It is likely that your crown threads can be brushed off, blown out, re-greased and it will be like new..

If it was like that since it was new then you should have corrected it under the 2 year warranty presented with the new watch. You wouldn't be in this position now - sorry

Hate to have to agree with this but...
Maybe some Fomblin grease on the threads to smooth things up?

If has never been serviced then it is about time. But be prepared to hear later that the crown and tube required replacement.

IMHO, either of those two pieces have something amiss if this symptom has been there since new. What I don't get is why you didn't take it in during the warranty period?
