Joining the club with a 5513 and 1016 - also, questions about them
Over the course of six weeks I've gone a bit insane and have picked up two lovely pieces. One from a well-known dealer in SF, and another in-person sale verified by a friend/seller/WIS here in NYC. Here they are:
My 1978 Submariner Ref. 5513 with Type III 'Lollipop" Maxi Dial: This one came with a 93150 and 580 end links. Are these period accurate? Also, the bezel insert is definitely a replacement. I don't mind it, considering how clean the tritium is on the dial. Would a '78 5513 even have any ghosting on its bezel insert? My 1972 Explorer I Ref. 1016: And a macro shot to show the lume. The first shot is on the 93150/580 that came with my 5513. What would a period accurate Bracelet/Link combination be? 280? 380B? The 580s work but don't sit -quite- right on it. The seller mentioned that the insides of the lugs have been laser welded by ABC, for scratches and, presumably, for pin stretch? I'd guess the case has been polished but it looks great. The dial, and lume markers are perfect, almost suspiciously so, but I love how crisp the text is. Thoughts on this? Possible redial? My local WIS friend/experts suggest it's not. After all, it's not THAT old of a piece. Anyway there you have it. I'm part of the club now, right? Is there a secret handshake to learn? :-) |
