KL Malaysia (or other asian destinations) - opinions?

Yes I know, another thread on watch shopping but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything on TRF for Malaysia. So new thread it is.

So I'm planning a holiday in Asia and current itinerary includes a stopover at Kuala Lumpur for a S/S submariner with date. Reading some of the opinions on here, it seems that most people's experience is that Singapore AD's are reluctant to bargain much, with the volume of cashed up shoppers coming through. I expect it is a similar story in HK as well.

So I was after opinions on whether KL is the right place to be planning a sub shopping trip with the ADs there. If so, any suggestions on dealers to go to (or areas), if there is any discount that I might be able to wrangle and what the current list price is over there (price lists for Malaysia seem to be thin on the ground).

Thanks all

In KL your best bet would be some of the grey dealers. AD = service and price or availability.

What's your experience with ADs? I'm not particularly interested in grey dealers, my level of trust is not that high!

I love Malaysia. I lived at sunway a few years back. It seems to me luxury items are taxed hard and everything else minus booze is cheap.

Do you have any experience with AD's from your time there?

Like you, my trust level is not high, hence, all my current watches I bought from ADs. Depending on which you go to some discount can be had ranging from 3% to 10% off list price. Grey importers can offer higher depending on models.

Generally speaking, sport models are more in demand and thus less discount given. My recent purchase is the Polar EXP 2. I decided to pay the extra and bought it from Rolex Boutique itself at 3% discount whereas one AD I found can offer 5% and I know some grey importers are advertising at 10% off list. But then again most grey importers do not accept credit card without additional 2 or 3% charges. Who would carry US$7-8k equivalent in local currency anyway to go shopping.

My experience so far with the Rolex Boutique is very good. A few days after I bought my Exp II, I noticed a slight discoloration on one of the SEL. It wasn't a stain so I took it back and after inspecting it, they changed for me a new bracelet there and then. They took off a bracelet from a new watch on display and replaced onto mine. I was very happy and within a week a bought a DJ 116200 for my wife from them.

try Cortina Watch, they are willing to give reasonable discount.

for address, you may browse thru Rolex.com and search under Malaysia.
