Yes because she spends 4k plus dollars on airfare alone to fly herself, husband and 2 kids to Europe each year. That's a lot of dough for a trip

I would wear it... Except during a salary negotiation or during yearly review/salary increase time...

I wore my Sub C to interview,
I wear it everyday and only take it off if I think I'll damage it ( I'm a land surveyor on construction sites in quarries and on landfill ),
I'm not really bothered what anyone thinks about it, and no ones asked.
My Boss wears a Yachtmaster, I've noticed his, no doubt he's seen mine.

Wear it, make sure he notices it and then ask for a raise. This is assuming he knows what it even is.

So long as you wear the watch rather than letting the watch wear you.

Just wear the watch as you would any other.

Good point, he knows how much you earn so how you spend it is your business and if he recognises it Im sure hell understand why you saved and bought it, just don't go broadcasting it, save that for here!

I would absolutely wear a DD in front of my boss. If he/she is offended or otherwise upset they need to get over it. I'm retired now but had many bosses in my life. My attitude towards all of them was: lead, follow or get out of the way! Many were indeed leaders and I followed them. Several were not and they soon were following me.

+1... But if these issues don't apply and you are simply worried about the appearance of trying to upstage your boss (or his boss in my situation), wear it.
Say it was a gift. Worked for me.

I wear my Lange 1 regularly in front of my boss. He actually likes expensive watches even though he would prefer to spend his discretionary income on other thing. Makes for some great conversation!

Funny post. I recall in my twenties when I wore my TT Datejust in the early '80's. I began working for a firm where the GM of the Co. also wore a TT DJ. He did the interview and I noticed him glancing at my ROLEX a number of times. Well I landed the position and enjoyed my time there. I also noted that no other staff at the Co. wore any model of ROLEX, just the GM and myself. Interestingly - about six months later the GM was sporting a YG DD Pres. He never said anything and I certainly never commented directly. As well he seemed to have a little more spring in his step when watches were mentioned...guess he needed the one-up-man-ship.

I wouldn't worry and wear it, he most probably won't notice.

Absolutely. Most people will not notice - those that do will appreciate it. I have had several positive experiences where a client (or better, a prospect) recognizes and appreciates what I am wearing. Or the opposite - I notice and appreciate something they are wearing. This creates a small connection outside of the work experience - something you both share.

But just wear it - don't flaunt it.

It's nice to see this has generated quite a few responses mostly positive to the thought of be yourself and not worry what the boss would think. I actually did have a meeting with him today and was smiling thinking of this thread.

To clarify I'm not really high up on the food chain in my department. I work with lots of attorneys and directors that have ginormous egos and more often than not gripe as to why their office is not as big as their peers. Whatever.

I also work for a very and I mean very controversial employer that's been in the news a lot when the financial meltdown occurred so stability has always been a concern. Bottom line is I will pursue my dream watch and not be too concerned with what others think. Life is way too short and thanks to helpful advice I have found some deals in the for sale section. Thanks to all.

Wear it with ease. Unless, of course, you are employed by Omega...

People tend to get along with those with same interests... so if your boss knows what a DD is, and notices that you have the same interest with him - meaning there's more benefit for you to wear it in the meeting :)

I have did this several times in the past (when it was in my collection)
But out of experience, to avoid jealousy, I only wear steal in this kind of situations.
Just my 2cents.

My boss and I both have the same Sub. But besides him, nobody else in the office even recognizes a Rolex. To answer your question though, I say what the hell, you worked hard and you chose to reward yourself with a great watch, wear it with pride.
