GMT II old style, M serial

I posted about this recently. Which means that my GMT II has even more chance of the new movement.

Rsc !!!!!

If the hybrid pepsi with the 3186 movement hits a RSC, they will probably remove it and insert a 3185!!!!!LOL

Pretty funny. I was actually at the SF RSC today to pick up my sub from service when the lead watchmaker was looking at a customer's 16710 Pepsi with the serial number starting with M3-----. It had the 3186 movement and the "stick" configuration dial. It was the first 3186 movement the watchmaker has seen. Funny enough, he's leaving this Sunday for Lilitz to get training on this movement.

Hmm, I have a Z serie GMT II as well...

Good news is that 4 vintage Omega's are ready for pick up @ my watchmaker, so I think I let him open the caseback of my Rolex..

From what i've been told or heard by some AD's. That Rolex released a small amount of Z series GMT's with the 3186 movements in them to test them out before they released the M GMT II discontinued line.

They did this mainly to see if there would be any problems with the new movement in the old 16710's.

So I would imagine for those few people who do have a Z GMT II with the 3186 wouldn't know unless they were either told up front or figured it out on there own. The way you can find out without taking the back off is Just do a "wiggle" test.

The fact that the M series GMT II has the 3186, I thought was pretty much common knowledge around here. But I quess the Z series is a different story.

The Daytona's were the first to have the blue spring or non-magnetic and it would be cool the GMT were incorporated with it before discontinuation.

I am so confused!!!!!!!

What my AD told me, was that there was a limited number of 3186s in the coke or pepsi GMTs, but THOSE were the ones with the stick dials instead of the Roman numerals for the "2" after "GMT" Is this wrong?

Yes, that is wrong..... there are a couple of dial variations with the 3186.

This thread is over a year old guys.......... It was started back when Z and M were both being produced.......As a matter of fact, Z is still being seen being received at AD's, so it is likely that "Z", "M", and "V" are all being produced at the same time.....

It has been confirmed for months that some Z GMT's and some M GMT's have a 3186 in them...... Same for the EXP II.

Actually, that is the scary part since some want to spend extra for a GMT with a 3186...... There are probably some unscrupulous businessmen who are buying GMT's and EXP II's and swapping the movements ...there is no way to know different..

Are there any known examples of GMTII ceramic bezel watches with anything other than a 3186 movement?

None to my knowledge. Never figured this thread would still be on the front page.

As has been said many time by others collectors have gone for particular models or dials not movements. The stick dial is not unique to the 3186.

Just out of interest ten years down the line if the mainspring goes in an old 3185 would it be replaced with the newer blue mainspring? If so maybe the older spring will be more desirable

Either way the spring/movement is not the most desirable feature on a collectors lists.
