Would never ever work for me. I use the more direct approach and stick with a black bezel insert so I can say its the same watch.

I am working on a GMT II project right now. She knows I am changing some things up on it. I figure from here on out, I will just say its the same watch, I just changed the Insert, and Bracelet. |

My GF so smart, she let me buy the daytona and AP 39mm, after 2 months of borrowing and returning things, now become hers forever.

i'm hoping mine follows this example: her new 36mm DJ is on the way. Should make my life easier when adding more Rolexes. This entire discussion gives RF another great reason to exist. So glad to see different points of view. |

My girlfriend was not pleased when I told her I wanted an AP. We have a pretty volatile relationship, so I waited until we broke up for a week, bought it and any anger over the purchase was lost in the lovey dovey reconciliation.

Very interesting stories.
As I said in the OP, this is just for fun and to lighten things up here in the forum. No need to over think. For my first rolex, I just told her that it was my dream watch and I wanted it since I was a little kid (true story). Now for the rest of my watches, it is a different story. We would sit and talk about it and decide together. I am a guy that is very independent, but I like my wife to share my decisions and it feels great when my wife compliment my watch when I wear it knowing that she had a say in picking it up. |

Ri, that is correct. This conversation was with my girlfriend and it's a conversation that would have never happened with my ex wife when we were married.
Divorce taught me many things about myself as well as relationships. Sounds kind of selfish but I learned that the first person you have to look out for is yourself. Take care of yourself and then you are able to take care of the loved ones around you. I've been known to say about my divorce... it's the worst thing that ever happened to me but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Those who have been through it will understand.

Nothing humbles you more and helps you know you married the right woman then to be living out of boxes in a hotel room for 3 weeks till you get your first paycheck at a new job and then almost loose your house a few years later. All these years later we look at it as a well planned learning experience for us and it brought us closer together and made discussing finances not an issue which it can be for some marriages. The Lord was watching out for us in those experiences most definitely.

Yeeeooouch... In the long run I guess it was worth it, in the short term it's devastating to those involved. Good to be able to look back and chuckle about it now, not too funny when one is in the middle though.

I take after the US Military.. I call it operation "shock and awe.. And you can have one too honey". Has worked 8 times.
Last watch I bought was the 18k DDII. Got it for myself on Dec 14. Didn't say a word to my Wife. On Dec 27 we fly to FL for a cruise, 2nd or 3rd day into cruise at dinner she notices my watch and says "nice watch congrats".. I swear that's it. I'm very very lucky that way. Mind u.. I also had a brand new car in driveway and it took her almost a week to notice.."oh they all look same to me". I believe that for those who don't have it that easy, best thing is to involve your wife/husband and take them with you. |

My wife is pretty supportive of it. I've told her I've got a limit... I got one more to go but as long as I put distance between the purchases and I only use the money I set aside in small amounts at a time monthly, then I'm all good. What takes convincing is letting me get her a nice watch... She doesn't care for expensive watches. I won't push her if it'll keep her off my back about my watches!

My wife just shakes her head and says another watch,as long as our responsibilities to the household are met I don't tell her how to spend her money and she doesn't tell me how to spend mine. That's it works
