DD2 Platinum

Good morning all,

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a DD2 Plat (ice blue dial roman numerals). Its my grail watch. I currently wear a GMT2C and wondered what people here would advise ...... keep the GMT2 or trade it in.

Also, does anyone have any insight as to whether Rolex is changing the case sizes in the future on the DD line up? They went to 41mm from 36mm ... is there potential that they will go larger again?

DDII platinum is my grail watch too. I have a DDII Rose currently and love that watch. I really doubt Rolex would stop making DDII and switch to 39mm. That is highly unlikely. Good luck and congratulations in advance on the DDII

Do you think there's any chance that the case size for DD watches will be going up in size?

No. Rolex takes long time and puts a lot of long term thought into bringing any changes to a model. Of course this is my opinion but i highly doubt DDII will get any changes to it besides new dial choices.

I think Rolex was hedging their bet when they grew it to 41mm. Had they up sized the DD2 to 39mm or 40mm, then I'd wonder if there was a future size change. Now I doubt it'll change to a bigger size.

The 218206 is fantastic.

Oh and keep the GMT. It's the best current SS Rolex IMO. A great everyday piece.

Thanks very much for the info and opinion on rolex sizing etc. I have to say - wow that DD2 looks great on you!! I can't wait to be a proud owner of one myself!

Out of curiosity how large is your wrist?

That's truly a fantastic watch and looks great on you! Congrats and thank you for your thoughts on cases sizes. I just didn't want to spend 50k and have it become out of date (so to speak in a few years).

I'll keep the GMT2 as well.

IMO the 118206 is a great piece as well and looks classier (not outdated) due to its 36mm size. I just prefer the 41mm because it's sportier and works as a casual watch because of its larger size.

Interesting to think of the 36 mm as not outdated. I have a 7.5"wrist so I'm going to have to try the DD2 on again and see how it looks on my wrist...... for some reason i thought it looked a bit small, but them again, I'm used to the GMT2 and haven't really worn a dress watch before

I would lose the GMT. I can't see leaving a plat DD2 on the dresser for a GMT. If you were a collector that would be another thing. if you were though you would not be asking us in the first place.

Im only selling my subc for a YG GMTc as I don't want to have to save up any longer but if you can afford the DD2 without selling then I would def keep the GMTc, thats a great dress/sports combo to have. As for size I think the DD2 already wears big for a 41mm and as its a dress watch I doubt a conservative brand like Rolex would go any bigger here.

wouldnt trade in you wont get much compared to what the watch is worth and still a great watch, but gotta admit once I had that DD2 Plat it would never leave my wrist

IMO i highly doubt Rolex will change the case size of the DD2. only they know for sure but I cant see this happening anytime soon

A 7.5" wrist would be average size I would have thought. You could get away with either the 36 or 41mm, but any larger would look clownish IMO.

If the plat dd2 will be your only watch, keep the GMTIIc. Great all around daily watch. Great example is if you were traveling. I personally wouldn't wear a plat DD2 while going through airports. With the security you will need to take it off. Handling luggage with overhead bins etc likelihood of putting a scratch on that nice polished bezel is too high. Therefore wear the GMTIIc while enroute and bring the dd2 in a Oakley watch vault for when you arrive at your destination.

Technically Rolex did not, with respect to DD 'go to 41mm from 36mm'; rather they created a new watch, the DDII. They will not increase the case size of the DDII. If anything, they will create line.

And that ice blue dial is absolutely beautiful.

Love where you are going...no I dont think they ill go bigger the trend fr arger watches is dying out very fast now and if you can afford it keep your now watch.

Maybe it's just me, but if you have to sell a watch to purchase a 30k plus watch, you can't afford it.

I don't see the correlation. If someone needs to top off funds to get a watch they want by selling another watch, what's wrong with that? In some cases, it's not a question of money. You can only wear so many watches.
