15506 datejust

Anyone know anything about a rolex 15506 datejust, 8mil.ser#? Is there such an animal? Seen one, and being fairly new, never heard of this # they said it was gold plated to look like a gold dj. Anybody?

.

15506 never existed, but 15505 did. 15505 was an oyster perpetual date , not a datejust , so was 34mm in size. Made of gold. 8mill for the s/n , 1983 , correspond for a 15505.

Google will help you see some of them.

Thanks for your help. Has orig. box, might pull the trigger but $1900 seems a bit high

You didn't mention condition or whether it has a bracelet or strap, but a quick trip around the internet indicates that $1900 is not an unreasonable price.

The 15505 was the was last in the gold plated, or gold filled, version of the Date. Up close, you'll find that the top of the case and riveted Oyster bracelet is gold and the underside and caseback are stainless. It will have the 3035 quickset movement, but a plastic crystal.

I've seen them in conditions that range from like new to well worn, where the stainless peeks through the gold plating. Usually the bracelet goes first, but heavy scratches on the case top can look pretty ugly.

Last I heard, Rolex RSC's were still able to replace worn cases and bracelets. It has the look and feel of gold, but well below the cost of solid 14K. The plating is quality work, as you'd expect from Rolex, but still prone to wear that can't just be buffed out.
