3186...can I tell by the serial number alone?
Looking at pulling the trigger on a BNIB Polar Exp II (16570) with a V50XXXX serial and was wondering if the experts can chime in to help me determine if this watch has a 3186 movement by the serial number alone and without opening the case.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to the comments/feedback! |

In think from what I've read, all Z serials have it and some later M's. It could be just the opposite thought.
Definitely not V's. |

There have been late Z s/n's with 3186 - and some M's have them - definitely all V's have them.

We are not talking about GMT's as the post you cited did.
Read Sheldon's posts closer and you'll see that he was adding info to an Expl.II thread with that post.

Almost all of the 3186 threads I've seen were for the GMT. I believe I've also read that the Yachtmaster got the 3186 at the same time? |

...and you know that how?
The OP simply said BNIB. Could have been eBay, CL, etc.

And why would a Yachtmaster have a GMT movement it uses the cal 3135 .Now with the 3186 movement if you turn the winding crown the second time zone hand will jump around 8 hours, while on the cal 3185 around 5 hours. But whether 3185 or 3186 no big deal either way the 3186 is only a modded 3185, but there have been a few reported problems with the 3186

For what it's worth, here's more discussion about the 3186 in the EXPII as well as the GMT. http://luxurytyme.com/en/rolex-relat...-rolex-models/
