It's my understanding that Rolex keeps track of the watch and it's service history through the serial number.
It is tracked to the AD, and the AD reports it as sold on a certain date. The only time that Rolex will ever see this number again is if an owner either sends it in to an authorized Rolex Service point, or reports it stolen to them.. So, in theory, it is possible to get the AD from Bienne, and the initial buyer from the AD (if they kept good records), and the next buyer from that person, and on, and on.. In actual practice, it's possible that nobody will tell you anything... But it might be worth a couple of stamps to find out..

Would be interesting but would need a hec of a lot of cooperation and great record keeping.
Goood luck on the quest.

There was a story a few years ago, which I believe to be accurate as it was reported in the news.
Though a bit grusome, apparently a badly degraded corpse was found at sea. The poor soul was wearing a rolex which was traced by authorities, leading to the preliminary identification of the corpse. Further, the watch had stopped which allowed authorities (via figuring the power reserve) to closely approximate the time of death. Tempus Fugit, Trainer |
