Quintessential Calatrava-style AP from a different era...

Having recently received this recent acquisition back from independent servicing, I couldn't be more pleased. As the title of the post suggests, this model, to my mind and eye, embodies all of the classic design elements of the Calatrava line of watches made famous by Patek Philippe (and first introduced in 1932).

Housed in a simple, yet elegant 35mm case, is arguably the finest hand-wind movement ever produced by AP: the Valjoux-based VZSSc (the sub-second version was VZSS).

Cheers,

Tony C.

Thanks to all for your kind comments. I'm new to this forum, though some of you may know me from other forums. I have long had a soft spot for the type of understated elegance that this watch reflects so well. It's tough to capture the simple beauty of the lugs on this case, but they dip down rather dramatically in a manner that is rarely seen in contemporary designs. Nuanced touches such as that, along with the top-class movement, help to make the watch special.

As to puffy's comment, I have had see-through case backs made for a couple of my watches, but prefer to limit them to steel. As it happens, though, the very same, superb base movement can be seen through a custom case back in this photo of my Gübelin Jubilee:

Looks very elegant. Very Nice! Somehow, perhaps unfairly, the ROs and ROOs dominate AP's product portfolio and hardly people mentioned about their dress watches.
