I still love my LVC, and I think it is a great watch to have in the collection; however, if I had to cut back to one or two watches, I think a black dial is more versatile. Since I prefer matte black dials to gloss black dials, that leaves me with the ExpII42:) The DJII is also very versatile and I get my dressier sport watch and a splash of color with that choice.

Change wife or own your own money.
Sub and a more fun watch, whatever rolex it is.

I would say the LV with black bezel and the GMT Pepsi with black bezel and coke bezel it’s like having 5 watches..best of both worlds she said 2 watches nothing about bezels..

Do they both currently have to be in my collection?
DSSD for daily and AP Diver for weekends Or can I keep my favorite and sell the others to get a really nice second watch? AP Diver on a bracelet for daily wear and AP RBII for weekends. |

GMT for casual and a DJ w jubilee for formal. Could also put a black leather strap on the DJ for very formal/black tie.

There's a far easier choice you could make, wife or happiness??
That aside, it's a good question...I'm in the process of bringing my collection down to two watches plus a G-Shock... My choices are: - Sea Dweller 16600 (which I have already) - Sub 116613 TT LB which I will be collecting on 4th December I will be wearing the Sub for smart wear (work or social) and the Dweller for general wear (casual social, sport, mucking about in the field on the tractor etc). The beauty of this combination, is that if I'm going away for a few days where I will be both smart and casual, both watches will actually suit all scenarios. The G-Shock (new Rangeman, also collecting in December), will be used for hardcore drinking, building, or general mucking about. When I'm older, I will likely trade the Sub for the Patek Rose Gold 5712 which is my grail watch...but it doesn't suit me yet, so need to wait a few years. I really like the Day Date, but that doesn't suit my looks or personality...I think that all too often people buy watches they like the look of without giving thought to what they will look like on them! What all this does mean, is that I will be saying goodbye to my limited edition Bremont MB2, my Baume and Mercier Riviera, and my Tag Microtimer, along with some other less good pieces...all very sad, but time to move on... My wife is very good and I can buy whatever I want, but my motivation is simplicity...I don't like clutter, too many possessions, or anything that complicates life in any way without giving enough reward. My Rolex gets 95% of wrist time and as such, the other watches are just a complication (storage, insurance, servicing etc) that gives me a little bit of satisfaction once in a while. I need a bit of strange / variation, but not as much as I currently have. |

I am lucky that I already have "my two" in my collection. Both are classics with plenty of heritage and no date to faff about setting.

Blah blah blah, money something. Hysterical!!! OP. go for versatility. I'm at two. DJ2, silver stick. Super versatile. And a breitling airwolf for complete sport and functionality. Given your comments, the sub and your DJ seem to really cover most everything.

I think a GMT/Daytona or Sub/DJ would be a nice combo to have.

Part of my plan long ago was to get my wife excited about wearing watches even though she sometimes forgets to wind them! That's my job. She won't wear a quartz and enjoys her Rolex, IWC, and others.
However, she has no idea how many watches I have and that's the way I like it. Thinking of the question, I would go for a 1) rose gold day date, 2) a vintage GMT - neither of which I currently have - hummmm, seems like a new hunt is in order. Mike |

Can dress it up or down with a Rubber B.... Read it wrong and thought OP was talking about what is in your collection now.... I'll still stay with these two that have been with me for some time...
Panerai for endless strap changes....

I can't even conceive of my wife saying I could only have two watches especially since I pay for them with my sweat and tears.

If I were presented with this ultimatum, I'd be on the for sale section now deciding on watch number 3...
