Downsizing!!!

ok since I have got the YMII it has pretty much been my "one and only"

the bottom row my kids have now and out of the top row, my wife pretty much keeps the WG sub and RG Daytona!

so I am down to the YG and thinking I am almost able to go to a ONE ONLY??? watch the YMII???

Interested to see what effect the YMII has on others collections and what they wear (Mike??!!)

First of all, beautiful, rounded collection my friend. The YMII is not my favorite watch in the Rolex lineup but I see their allure. I would keep something a tad more conventional to go with it. If it were me personally, I'd reacquire one of those Subs or the stainless GMTII. Either would make a good pair with that YMII.

In my far humbler collection, I have a hard time rotating three watches despite always wanting more. Right now I really alternate my Explorers and wear my Sub as my beater. I'd recommend keeping a stainless piece for the same reason.

I just got my YM2 so give me a few weeks to assess the impact to my rotation. I can tell you initially that I've never had such razor sharp edges on a Rolex bracelet! The head has rounded edges but the bracelet edges are not chamfered or rounded. Regardless it is a spectacular piece. The gold+blue+white makes it pop much more than any other Rolex I've ever owned. Really... this is a gorgeous sports watch. I've found that it attracts a lot of eyeballs. I was out shopping last night and I saw a lot of furtive glances. You know... the look down at your wrist followed by the quick glance up and then back down.

Those of you that have a DSSD will understand what I say next. The "YACHT-MASTER II" engraved in the bezel isn't as prominent as pictures would convey. It kind of blends in well with the rest of the bezel.

What's interesting to me is that the gold is slightly "lighter" than my 116718. There's no confusing it for SS or RG but side-by-side, it seems to be subtly a lighter tone gold. Tom do you find your YM2 isn't as "gold" as your Sub? Maybe Rolex just changed their YG mix a little in the last 3yrs?

What would absolutely make this YM2 an "only one" Rolex for me is the addition of the 116618 Easyglide clasp. Tom, swap clasps and you've got yourself a watch I'd HAPPILY wear every day. In fact, I'm looking to get one for mine.

Evan I agree and good suggestion, I think since I am used to the size and weight of the YMII was going to buy a DSSD (sold last one when got the YMII) for more heavy duty days.

Agree seems either lighter or brighter, I thought I was just crazy and that still could be the case.

The YMII seems to make the YG sub to me redundant and not quite as "pop" as it used to be

the white face really makes a difference IMO then add the size and complication and well

My plan is if the Plat Daytona does it for me my get rid of the YG sub and go that way?!

I thought I was seeing things with the color difference!

I know what you mean. My 116718 looks VERY subdued next to the YM2. However I know I'll be keeping my GMT because the gold/black is different from the gold/blue/white. However if I had a 116618LB, I'd probably get rid of it as the gold/blue is a little duplicative.

I agree. Get the 116506 and get rid of the YG SubC. If you're looking at picking up a steel piece, maybe you should look at the SS YM2?

Gotta agree with you on this one, Tom.

Looking at that incredible lineup and everyone of them (including the bottom row) is stunning. But there's only one that stood out to me and that's the YMII. No question. Cheers!

I think the risk of wearing a larger watch like the YMII is that you get used to the presence of a larger watch (especially if you feel that size suits you) and going back to 40mm just doesn't feel quite right.

Add to that the additional impact and wrist presence any white dial watch tends to provide and you're starting to head down a one watch street......

For example, I tried the WG Panda Daytona next to the Plat Daytona and despite the prestige and status of the Plat Daytona, for me, the WG Panda dial still had much more impact and wrist presence.

I'll be interested to see what you think when you get to try the Plat Daytona on.....
